Look at the justification of Kerry's Silver Star Citation that was written in 1969. A fake as well?

This document itself isn't dated, but the action occurred in 1967, and the font is Courier-style. But as you can see, it's fully justified with no hyphenations.

Whew...thought Kerry forged his own citations. What
was I thinking?
Thanks for the info. :)

Looks like they dressed up the Silver Star citations, the justification isn't inconsistent with this other citation I found for another gent in 1969.
I think Kerry's Silver Star is a fraud, but this won't prove it.

Then again, I guess Dalton is too recent a Secretary of the Navy for the doc to be old? Trying to look up his bio...

I'm beginning to think they were typeset. What was the date on yours? I couldn't make it out on the machine I'm stuck on at work.

That said... I did take a look at Kerry's DD214 and there are TWO different fonts, one is a proportional font.
http://www.johnkerry.com/pdf/jkmilservice/DD214.pdf
Notice the different M's in FITZSIMONS and COMMISSION.... the different L's in COLORADO and NAVAL... the different C's in COLORADO and COLLEGE, etc....
All the darker text is in one font (typical older mono-spaced font), and the lighter text is all in a different font (a proportionally-spaced font you'd find in a word-processing program).

WOW, the Lehman citation is justified too! I've seen a few legit Lehamn citations and NONE were justified. Look at the two, the Hyman justification is more sophiscated then the Lehman.
This is more than fishy.
To: The Bandit
I'm sorry, but it's relatively easy to justify using mono type spacing, even during that period. All you need to do is count the characters and spaces, then add a space bar where needed. If you look closely at these documents, you will see the characters align with the one below, showing it to be mono spaced. It's harder to see with Italic font though. If you check the second document for example, the first line is For conspicuous.... You can see the extra space between For and conspicuous.
It's MUCH harder to justify using proportional spacing and kerning.

The one I posted wasn't dated, but it was awarded for action in January and February 1969, same as Kerry's "action".

You may be mistaken about the date. Kerry lost his original and had a new one "made up" sometime later.

Interesting, look at the spaces vs. the Hyman.
To: Tamsey
There's nothing unusual about that. I'm fairly certain you'd find the same variations on Bush's.

A Linotype could do this then. Citations for Silver Stars were no doubt something not just typed out!

Variations on Bush's DD214? And one in a proportional font not available in standard typewriters in the early 70's?

Justified text was readily available in the 60's and 70's using
typesetting services. Award citations seem like a very sensible use of such services.
This scandal is no excuse to blindly shake trees to see what drops, it makes us look a bit silly.

"Quad left", "Quad center" and "Quad right" were well known commands in the world of typesetting when this citation was set up.
It was probably a 5 minute job at most.

A Linotype could do this then. Citations for Silver Stars were no doubt something not just typed out! Yes but the Hyman citation is just too good, even compared with the Lehman. The fonts look too different for the era. How was this produced in 1969? Yes I know he may had it replaced but that is why we see a Lehman citation.
