Yes, you can screw the plywood over the big windows. Unfortunately, all they had left was 3/4 in. plywood which is heavy as heck.
I'm about 12 miles inland. Our danger is from falling trees and tornado activity. My family (incl kitty) won't be here if Mobile takes a direct hit.
J- I had no idea you were that close to the water. Girl, get the heck outta there. And hugs to kitty.
We should know by mid day tomorrow whether to leave. It occurred to me today that Stewart's Mom and Dad are leaving tomorrow for the Ryder Cup, so their house way up in north Alabama will be empty! Several of us will go there if necessary.
It's much farther than we would normally go, but they'll probably keep power, so I might even get to watch some golf! I may go even if the storm doesn't look too bad but looks likely to knock out our power.
Go T, Go. We need your continued political input. By the way, Michigan is very nice this time of year (grin). Really, it is. The trees aren't turning quite yet up here, but the weather is extremely nice. Sunny, in the 70's. No hurricanes. How can ya beat it? (I never thought I'd ever be a shill for Michigan - especially since my adopted football team HATES their football team).
Yeah, sure wish I'd made plans to go to the Ryder Cup!
Lisa says they're not going to the White House before the match (as used to be tradition before 9/11), but I'd bet anything George & Laura make a surprise appearance in Detroit----hmmm, wasn't GWB in Michigan today?!
41 usually hangs around with the team the whole time, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see 43 pop in. I told Lisa....DIGITAL PICTURES!!!!!
BWB, where are you? Are you getting any weather there yet?
This is ridiculous. My father and all my uncles of his generation served in some fashion in WWII - my father in the South Pacific with the Navy, my uncle Frank in North Africa with the Army Air Corps, uncle Doug somewhere in the Army (don't know where) and my uncle Carroll stateside with the Navy. My father-in-law spent the entire war stateside, training Air Corps pilots in Texas. Apparently, Kerry thinks stateside service isn't worthy of respect. That really, really offends me.
Check out this realtor-couple's web page.
Nice enough house. Scroll down, 3rd picture.

Now, look out the window.
Get your bunz up north!
Please.
Now, take Lodwick's advisc and get the heck out of there...

ROFLMAO!
I apologize for being AWOL from The Guild, but as you know, campaigning is a full time job.
I just saw the new tracking for Ivan. You have been in my prayers. This storm is a monster and I hope that it peters out before it hits you.
I just read the thread, if you need a place to stay in Michigan for the Ryder Cup, I am a half hour away. My guest room is yours.
Thanks so much for your generous offer. I would love nothing more than to flee up north and enjoy a visit with you. But, even if I had planned to go to the Ryder Cup, I would not want to be that far away after Ivan lands. If he does hit here, there will be much to do in the aftermath.
As of now, I'm planning to leave tonight or Wed morning unless the forecast changes dramatically for the better (unlikely at this point). I'm really rather lucky in that we have family in Montgomery (mid state), Birmingham (a little farther north) and Florence (way up near Tenn.). So I have the option of stopping in each place and evaluating the situation. Given the number of family evacuating from Mobile, the "outliers" will be swamped, so I (and kitty) will probably continue all the way north to Florence. The Florence house is unoccupied this week because Stewart's Mom & Dad are at the Ryder Cup....so we won't even be imposing!
It's very hard to leave. On the one hand, if the storm is as bad as it looks now, I certainly won't stay. But, if it IS that bad, I'll have a heck of a time getting back in when it's over.
I'm not pushing it, though. I am ready to leave tonight if necessary and have made all plans to leave no later than tomorrow morning. God bless us all.

I had heard about that real estate photo - very funny. Praying for Ivan to lose a great deal of strength and not to cause you any harm!
POTENTIAL First Lady Teresa Heinz Kerry says she gets unfairly characterized as a cold fish because she's so rich.
In an interview with designer Kenneth Cole for the October Harper's Bazaar, Kerry sniffs, "[People] think that if you have money you have no feelings or conscience. But when people get to know me, if I was any of that, they wouldn't dare hug me, kiss me and speak to me in personal terms."
When Cole wondered how she felt about the term "first lady," Heinz Kerry replied, "Ick."
And asked whether she'd be more of a Barbara Bush or Hillary Clinton type, she says, "Neither . . . I would be [the president's] good friend, telling him when he was doing right and helping him when he wasn't."
She also declares, "I don't have a social agenda" and "I don't read negative press. I just keep focused."
As for the all-important fashion question, "I like classic clothes. And every now and then, I like something froufrou in the evening. But I don't lead that kind of a life anymore." PageSix
Trump's attorney, Lawrence S. Rosen, even threatened to sue Chris Cuomo's father, former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, along with ABC execs and the staff of "Primetime Live." ....
"Chris Cuomo has a conflict of interest," Trump said. "You know, I called Mario Cuomo a major loser - which he is - and perhaps the worst governor in the history of the state of New York - which he, fortunately, was. His son is the correspondent. If somebody is calling my father a loser, I'd probably feel the same way." ... full story

I'm sure young Chris is well-qualified to be a news correspondent. I mean, it's not like the major networks are in bed with the Democrats, or anything.
