We remember. We always will.
To those who were injured and to those who perished, America will hunt down every last one of the terrorists.
To all who loved those who were injured and who perished, may God bless, comfort you and keep you strong.
The following are Remarks by Debra Burlingame as prepared for delivery at the 2004 Republican National Convention:
I'm Debra Burlingame.
My brother, "Chic Burlingame," was captain of American Airlines Flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon.
To those who knew him, Chic was a legend. U.S. Naval Academy, class of '71.
A fighter pilot. And navy reservist who volunteered for the Gulf War. His military experience trained him to be ready for battle.
But I'm certain he never expected to see action in the cockpit of his commercial jet. I know that he and every one of those pilots put up the fight of their lives that day.
Losing Chic on 9/11 was the most difficult thing my family's ever faced. But burden was lessened by the things that ordinary Americans did to help us.
I want you to know that we were aware of what you did. We saw the spontaneous memorials -- the cluster of candles on a front porch, the sign outside the Wal-Mart that said, "Pray for the Families." We saw the flags on the office buildings, on store fronts and kids' bikes.
We saw the websites. We read your letters. We received the pictures your children drew.
I'll also never forget the huge flag that was unfurled at the Pentagon, just a few yards away from where the plane went in. I especially remember it lit up against the dark sky in the wee hours of September 12th -- Chic's birthday.
My heart fell into a million pieces as it brought back the sweet memory of my brother as a nine-year-old Cub Scout, selling American flags door-to-door.
I am deeply honored and grateful for the privilege of standing before you so that I can thank you for these tender gestures and for the endless generosity which helped us carry on.
May God bless you.
Egads, I wonder where this has been?
My butler better have my disinfecting wet-naps at the ready on the bus!
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 14 - Speaking to National Guard members and veterans .... Interrupted by several standing ovations,
And just for fun, this little diddy buried at the end of the story:
Vice President Dick Cheney, at a morning rally inside a cotton warehouse near Blytheville, in rural and predominantly Democratic northeastern Arkansas, also sharply criticized Mr. Kerry on of Iraq.
Mr. Cheney gleefully read aloud from a speech Senator Kerry made last Dec. 16, when he was struggling to overtake Howard Dean's antiwar candidacy. "Those who doubted whether Iraq or the world would be better off without Saddam Hussein and those who believe today that we are not safer with his capture don't have the judgment to be president or the credibility to be elected president," Mr. Cheney read in a slow, scornful monotone.
"In the spirit of bipartisanship, this is one position of Senator Kerry's that I do agree with," Mr. Cheney said. heh heh heh!
One of our tenant reports that these storms are helping the crops - warm and windy in northern IA...bumper crops and the prices in the dumpster.
What else is new for the farmer?
Is there anything that can be done about the cost of flying into the DSM? Those folks are outrageous. $625 for a round-tripper from Houston.
Cheers, everyone.
Mighty Mouse is on the way!
Doofus really does NOT want to become the president.
Actually, I don't think he had to eat the soul food as he ended up having it packaged "to go"....he prob., gave it to his butler and he went out for gourmet.
Lucky Teresa, imagine if she did not know what chile was at Wendy's, who could have explained soul food to her, lol.
Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) makes a stop on Detroit's west side Tuesday, Sept.14, 2004, and pays for a dinner to go at Steve's Soul Food Restaurant, in Detroit.
And if that doesn't help, there are plans to bring Slick Willy into the campaign during the last two weeks, though Hillary is not so sure he will be ready to campaign for three months (just about the time she will announce her candidacy for 2008.
Speaking of the Beast, she looks none too happy in this photo, getting upstaged by little Chuckie does not set too well with her...
Gee, I hope Effin picked up a couple of pig ear sandwiches (on white bread, with ketchup) for his bride. Teresa's just nuts about soul food, you betcha.
Okay, now you're freaking me out.
Stay safe. Pack up the cat, some kitty and human snacks and be ready to bug out. Prayers sent for you and everyone in Ivan's path.
...hoping to heck that the pic was photoshopped.
Way to strike fear into the hearts of the terrorists, John.
One hopes, but nothing is outside the realm of possibility.:)
If production is down in the US it's because every dang union worker in the country is busy going to rallies.
eff'n's still trying for the Lance bounce, I see.
Dude is making Dukakis' effort look brilliant.
Indeed - all bused in (are they earning overtime?), wearing matching T-shirts, in an effort to appear intimidating and unified behind their manly candidate (assuming he loses the teddy bear and the spandex bike shorts).
J- praying for you. Hope you are at higher ground, warm and safe. Hugs to kitty, too. Check in when you can. -- E
Why does eff'n where a tie to get soul food? I've never seen anything like this guy. He couldn't be normal to save his life. What a major league geek.
