Just got back from Barnes and Nobel, went to the Bestsellers Nonfiction area, and could not find UNFIT FOR COMMAND books in there place of honor...number one best seller spot. Only a sign that showed the book should of been placed in that spot. Was tiffed! Asked Information at Barnes and Nobel , if they had the book, she looked and said there were 11 copies still somewhere in the book store. About seven or eight were put on hold behind the counter for potential buyers. I placed an order for the book, and she seemed to think it was because they were not being printed fast enough and selling too fast. She was not even sure if they were reordering the book.
Does anyone know what is going on with the printing of UNFIT TO COMMAND? And what is going on with Bans and IgnoreS(BARNES AND NOBEL)?
There are a lot of copies at the B & N store on the Third Street Promenade in the Peoples Republic of Santa Monica. This is a store that loves to host book signings by Gore Vidal and the rest of the Hate America First crowd. Go figure....
Thank you rightwing professor, was that at a Barnes and Noble, that it was displayed?
I can't believe I'm doing this, sorta defending B&N.....but.....I HAD put in an order at B&N, weeks ago. It took about 3 weeks (?) and I got the call from them that they were in. I released them.
AND...it took quite a while to get them from Regnery themselves. So? I'm ALMOST, stress ALMOST, starting to believe the story that they underestimated the popularity of the book.
MKM
I believe that they did not realize how popular the book would be, but shouldn't it at least be advertised somewhere in the bookstores, showing at LEAST a picture of the cover of the book? At Least?
I haven't been able to get out much (Just me and the kids while hubby is studying how to be a Navy aircraft mechanic at NAS Pensacola). Might have to go check out the local B&N tomorrow (first day of school YAY) and see what I can find. That and I'm looking to get 'Dereliction of Duty' too.
She seems to think better than you do.
Look they are not hiding the damn book. The publisher didnt print enough and still doesnt have enough to meet the demand. There may be a unusual store or here or there which may be philosophically against stocking the book but its not corporate policy. If you had done a search you would have problaby found at least 15 previous threads on this topic. If you read the news you would have seen articles about both Barnes and Noble and Borders where they say they are getting beat up by both sides over the book but the reason they dont have it is they cant get it and when they do it goes towards people who have placed orders. That is why you cant find it on the shelf. Get in line!
Why should they advertise someting they dont have? All that will do is cause more time to be wasted answering customer complaints about why they cant find it on shelf.
You seem to think that Barnes & Noble has an obligation to promote the Swift Boat Vets in their campaign against Kerry even if they dont have books to sell. Excuse me, but you dont seem to understand, Barnes & Noble is in the book business, not politics. And to do what you suggest would just piss off a good number of their customers to no benefit to them.

There have already been plenty of vanity threads about bookstores supposedly hiding this book. And they are all wrong. The book is #1 on the list because people bought it--so Regnery speeded up its printing. The reason you can't get it is because not enough have been printed.

And those are only the threads in which people complained about not being able to get the book. As many--if not more--vanity threads were posted by FReepers declaring that they found the book at their local bookstore, no dirty tricks, etc. etc.
I realized there were those vanity threads...so what? that is what they are there for? And Besides, there was not an Update on the state of the UNFIT TO COMMAND book at Barnes and Noble today. CHILL OUT!
Well yes...that would be nice. A poster, anything. Yeah, I agree.
AND, don't forget...even IF the store has them stocked, it's quite possible some loving lefty stuck them in a horribly WRONG place in the store, bless their hearts.
Well heck. Since you're buying books....get Michael Savage's The Enemy Within.
:)
That is True...Brad's Grandma, because when you walk into the Barnes and Noble, and all the liberal bashing books on Bush and Pro Kerry or Clinton books are on the front of the table, so you can see them, and THE NUMBER ONE BEST SELLER IN NON FICTION ON THE NEW YORK TIMES LIST..IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND, and not even a cover of it to be seen anywhere..YOU WONDER.
Did you happen to see my post last Friday night where Gramps and I had just come back from B&N to buy some stuff...and some loving liberal had taken a bunch of ANTI-Bush books and stood them up in front of the PRO-Bush ones?
Of COURSE I removed them....laughing all the while because so many of US have done the same.
No...I didn't hid them. I just piled them up carefully on top of the top row of books.
And I remember before My Lies was out...the HUGE poster they had in the front window. Both sides of the doorway. Again a few places in the inside of the store.
Yes it was. It had, in fact, two slots on the rack, and there were at least 8 copies, right in the font of the store.
I suspect it depends on the local management. Here in Lincoln it's not unlikely the manager is a good GOP'er.
*does a happy dance as she just received her copy from B&N.com*
WOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
I purchased a copy this weekend at Books a Million and they had a ton in the front (just received them in). They were also 30% off!
