Have you tried using a netting? Or string across the pond? Freepmail your private email addy and I'll forward it to my area's koi club prez. She had this problem a while back.

Buy real cheap fish for your pet Heron.

Wow! Too bad about your koi. We have blue herons here and I have seen them eat 14" bass. I can't tell you what to do, but maybe it escaped from the zoo?

Perhaps it was going to set him free. AKA Little Nemo.
To: Pukin Dog
I would think you would need some kind of net over the pond. Or you could try an owl or a BIG snake decoy.
I have blue herons here as well. Kingfishers can also take a pretty good sized fish.

Sorry, I am really sorry, but I initially LOL as I read this. It is not a joke however. My suggestion is to scoop up whatever fish survived, keep them indoors in an aquarium tonight, and go to the animal shelter tomarrow to get a nice homeless noist mutt to protect your very expensive heron chow, I meant koi pond.

Get a Goose gun if he's flying. If you can sneak up on him, hit him with a big rock.

Put a pic of John Kerry on a scarecrow. That will take care of the Heron.
I would write some environmental group and say that your yard is now a sanctuary for the endangered Heron, hopefully they will give you enough money you can keep buying food (Koi) for the Herons.

D@#$n that's a shame.
My parents live on the GA coast and have a lot of herons in the neighborhood. They say that chicken wire or stock fence netting across the surface of the pond will keep the herons out. If you get the dark plastic coated chicken wire and place it just on or above the surface, it shouldn't show too badly.
