p>Word For The Day, Thursday, Sept. 2,2004
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
AVUNCULAR
1.(-vngky-lr) adj. Of or having to do with an uncle. Regarded as characteristic of an uncle, especially in benevolence or tolerance
duty.
*vun"cu*lar\, a. [L. avunculus uncle.] Of or pertaining to an uncle.
In these rare instances, the law of pedigree, whether direct or avuncular, gives way. --I. Taylor.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Morning! I've got a 45 minute drive ahead of me to a jobsite, so I'd better be off-I want to take off early this afternoon...
What's a GED? I've been off sick for several days, so I'm trying to catch up now.
General Educational Development -- a high skool diploma "equivalent" (ha ha haaaaa) for those who, for whatever reason, couldn't manage the traditional 4 yrs of class attendance. It's an idiot test - even more dumbed-down than the SAT's.
Hope you're feeling better....eh?
Jennings is a biased putz. I saw him the other night at halftime of the football game, I suspect Al Michaels would have liked to have socked him for his anti-Bush bias. And I still remember the early Reagan years, when Petey would start every broadcast with an infantile unrequested anti-Reagan-administration editorial. Those snipings cured me of any desire to watch mainstream "news", thanks, Pete!
