Forgive the vanity question, but: DO REAL MEN WINDSURF? (or windsail, or whatever it's called)?

I guess Kerry went windsailing, or windsurfing, or whatever you call it, today. Apparently it's tricky, physically demanding, maybe dangerous (see Oregonian article about some journalist who shares this enthusiasm with Kerry). But to me, Kerry sure looks like an elitist doing it. Somehow, I don't think those photos of him on his windboard, or whatever it's called, are going to get him more votes than they lose him. Or am I totally off-base here?

Windsurfing is kind of 80's, isn't it?

It's hardly cool compared to what's out there now.

Oh yeah! Definitely. Big waves, lots of wind... Wind surfing can be real manly.

But the way John Kerry wind surfs.... That's like riding a tricycle. Hey, he owns an expensive bike that all but peddles for him. He skis like a sissy too...

Don't blame the sport, blame the man.

It's probably like bicycling. Some real men do it, and some girly men buy ridiculous outfits and overpriced gear and pretend to do it.

I have never tried it, but it looks both difficult and fun.

No, you're right. Every time Kerry tries to look athletic and twenty, he looks like a fool. Nobody on the staff has the cojones to tell him the truth, though, so he keeps doing it. Maybe the new staff will clue him in.

Man he looked completely disconnected when the reporter asked him if the war on terrorism can be won. Even Candy Crowley admitted that Kerry's staff cringed at the image of him windsurfing and looking so unelectable!

Don't worry. The 60 year old dork will stop soon as he busts his ass which could happen any time. Then he can award himself 3 purple hearts so he can go home early.

A real man would take a fancy rig like JF'nK's got, and jump out of an airplane with it.

That's what a real man would do.

It reinforces Kerry's image as an aloof, out of touch loner - Mr. Sensitive and Above It All, catching his own wave way out there apart from the sweaty masses.

George Bush, on the other hand, seems to prefer team sports like baseball.

What bothers me the most are his little color-coordinated outfits, often looking like they're made out of spandex.

Now THAT is not manly!

And when is he going to go to work? We're paying him a substantial salary and his life seems to be about vacations and sports!

My brother-in-law is very good at it. He even windsurfs at a power plant cooling pond in the middle of the CO winter.

Not a girly thing to do at all.

Windsurfing is kinda popular in the Columbia Gorge, where I live, because of the winds. Kerry came here and windsurfed. Lots of Kerry signs over in Hood River, Oregon, which is kind of the windsurfing capital.

But, a lot more people fish, even around here.

From what I can tell, most of the windsurfers are liberals.

After reading some of the other posts, I guess the sport itself might be challenging. It's just that Kerry looks like such a dork while engaging in most of these sports.

Yeah, somehow it seems like the sports equivalent to driving a Volvo.
