I think Rod Serling picked up his technique of introducing the episode with a pungent anecdote.
You shouldn't be too young to remember him.

I remember the Alfred Hitchcock presents: shows.
They had a half sillouette of him, he'd step up to it, it'd disappear, and then he'd speak.
I was thinking of Bela Lugosi though..
