upcoming event ping
ping
ping
Ah, Grellis. It's not as simple as standing tall and saying to the cigarettes, "You Cannot Pass!"
Lots of the troops in my units, past and present, have done it - it's ruthless willpower, and little else.
Please tell me more about the Family Thread?
I have quit cold turkey twice. Once for six years and once for five years.
It is tough for the first 3 days and after that, it is psychological. I'm glad your husband is going to quit, too. It's too hard to do with another smoker in the house.
I started smoking again three years ago and would like to quit again. Good luck!
This is YOUR doing, FRiend!!! Why don't you quit with us?
WOW, good luck, we will be rooting for you! It's a hard habit to kick!
I'll do family table the 27th if you just Freepmail me and let me know who to ping and how to set it up...
The FReeper Family Table is a Fridays-only thread we started a few months back. It began as a thread just for us moms, but lately I have realized that a lot of our subjects could use some masculine input. I have been wanting to put together a separate ping list for dads (I am a sexist, after all) so if you would like, I'll put you on it. If you know of any other dads who might be interested, have them FReepmail me. Thanks!
SOUNDS like a good thread idea : ) Grellis good luck I know you can do it and your kids will be so happy : )
I have tried cold turkey, and still I smoke...
Quitting is easy, its never lighting up again that is HARD, I know I have tried.
I could give up chocolate easier than giving up smoking, and I will NEVER give up chocolate :)
I wish you so much luck. You are more than a screen name, you are a friend, and I truly hope you can do this.
Donna
Ha, ha! I think you meant that for Grellis, did you not? :D
I'm still in learning mode, this morning...
Tell you what: Set me up on the list, if you please! I AM a dad, after all...
Good luck, Godspeed.
Coffee, lots of coffee.
(I'll post my personal brewing instructions. Laugh about them when you can. Especially should you start with the cig crave 'shakes' my brother got the last time he quit.)
Darksheare's Coffee.
Brew under advisement and warning: Can cause coughing and exclamations of "That's horrible!"
In 12 cup drip percolator pot, fill to 6 cup mark with water.
In filter, put 6 heaping scoops of coffee.
Medium roast works best, just make sure it's a robust blend.
Found a maxwellhouse 'medium roast' that was rather anemic.
Put pinch of salt in filter, about as much as it would take to cover the surface of a dime with one even layer.
This keeps the coffee from tasting burned too quickly, it doesn't age well brewed this way.
Brew, recirculate if need be, usually not.
Add sugar and dairy creamer.
Creamora and coffeemate are not recommended unless you like the heart racing that Ranger Pudding gives.
That, and the nondairy creamer will give you both a headache and a buzz with the coffee.
One thing not mentioned was that they did use non-dairy creamer.
I usually put about 8 spoons of sugar in this stuff, it ends up being like Russian Kava, thick and sweet with that bitter overtone to it.
Oh, and I am NOT responsible for seeming demonic possession of the coffeepot, or the coffeepot ending up acting as if it has been damaged.
Be sure NOT to add creamora or coffeemate to the brew, unless you LIKE ranger pudding style heart racing.
When I brew that stuff for myself, I recirculate the stuff to brew a second time, but that's me for my own personal enjoyment, and it may wreck the coffeepot.
Don't forget the salt, it's important to the finished brew.
Quit with us! It'll be the great FReeping smoke-out!
You can do it Grellis!
I quit cold turkey because just like you I didn't want to smoke anymore. It was really hard in the mornings, but I just reminded myself that I did not want to smoke. Now I can't even stand the smell of cigarettes. Just keep busy and you will get through it!
I'll give your coffe recipe a try--sounds dangerous. Reminds me of a funny story...
From high school until I got married, I worked as (among other things) a Denny's waitress. Good money, free coffee, what's not to love about that? After we got married, I moved down to Fort Knox and realized that I had never actually brewed a pot of coffee--Denny's uses those pre-measured coffee pouches, like most other restaurants. I have never been one to read directions, so I assumed that four tablespoons of coffee grounds for each cup was just about right.
Within a month, half a dozen guys from Ashfield's platoon were coming over to our place for lunch. Not to eat--just for the java. They all left buzzed.
I soon gave up any thought of sleeping. I figured it was something about living in Kentucky.
The first time my parents visited, I made some coffee for my dad, who did the mother of all spit takes and explained that, if you can chew your coffee, you are using too much grounds. Go figure!
Does that mean no e-mail as well?!? ACK!
Get some sugar free gum and put a rubber band around your wrist. When you feel the need for a cigarette, take the biggest, deepest breath you can then snap the rubberband. Hard. (Switch wrists every day)
After a while your mind will associate the craving with pain. It's suppose to work.
And if nothing else, think of $2.00 in tax paid on every pack. That's painful too!
All the Best FRiend!!!!
