I believe there was a virus of some sort running around a few weeks ago that would shut down Windows.

Do you have up-to-date virus software on your computer and have you run a virus scan lately?

No .

A month ago , and it was clean . The problem has existed for THREE months . I will do another virus scan today .

"The real problem? Overheated! All the upgrading of hardware had outgrown the fan "

I haven't added any new hardware since buying the computer 2 and a half years ago . Perhaps there is a problem with the cooling fan , though .

Deasktop

2 and a half years

" If a desktop, is there a chance your RAM has become unseated? "

Possible I guess .

We'll do a virus scan first and go from there . Thanks for all your help and advice freepers .

Did a virus scan this morning - all AOK .
