MTV VMA Smut: The Smutty Quality of the Nominees
Some song information courtesy Plugged In Magazine ^ | August 10, 2004 | Bobby Chang

Once again, the MTV Video Music Awards is near us, August 29 at the American Airlines Arena. Once again, the material is smut-laden and is not appropriate for the family.

Nominee: Usher featuring Lil' Jon & Ludacris, "Yeah!"

Comment: Men are on the prowl at a nightclub. There’s talk of getting women naked and wanting It seems there is an excess of smut here. “A lady in the street, but a freak in the bed.”

Nominee: Britney Spears, "Toxic"

Comment: Sexually explicit content. What do you expect from the maggot no-talent? Dr. Laura would gong her.

Nominee: D12, "My Band"

Comment: Audio poison. The problem with rock is explicit as it can be.

Nominee: Jay-Z, "99 Problems"

Comment: Puts his faith in guns. It should be for God, not guns!

Nominee: Justin Timberlake, "Señorita"

Comment: This song equates "real love" with physical intimacy.

Nominee: Kanye West feat. Syleena Johnson, "All Falls Down"

Comment: Angry threats against authority figures include, “‘Foxtrot the police,’ that’s how I treat ’em”. Even worse, the title of the album in question, College Dropout, is an insult to all the college graduate singers I've known.

Nominee: Beyoncé Knowles, "Naughty Girl"

Comment: Is her estrogen running amok on this song? Look at the explicit material here -- “I’m feeling kind of n-a-s-t-y ... I know you want my body”. Hello, where is police?

Nominee: Christina Aguilera, "The Voice Within"

Comment: While it tells fans to trust their hearts, this album in question is the evidence of Aguilera trusting hers, it proves beyond Jeremiah 17:9 that it’s a lousy idea. X-rated cover of the album in question, plus remember what had her in the Big Red Truck last year? We do.

Nominee: Maroon 5, "This Love"

Comment: Trouble on the moral stands with lyrics. Too explicit.

Nominee: Good Charlotte, "Hold On"

Comment: As I said last year about the group, the negativity is not a good thing. I've known what hopelessness can cause because of a dear friend.

Nominee: 50 Cent featuring Snoop Dogg & G-Unit, "P.I.M.P. Remix"

Comment: Doesn't hold standards for himself he does of others. "This BLEEP, you can have her when I’m done / I ain’t goning to keep her." Worse yet, look at the names of the explicit guest artist list.

Nominee: Ludacris, "Stand Up"

Comment: Mr. Bridges lusts over women’s breasts and wants to get “a thick young lady ... outta them pants. Also two venomous rants attack Bill O'Reilly are featured AND some explicit cover art, in addition to the smut material. Bill O'Reilly is right in saying cities should not be allowing this thug on city festivals.

Nominee: Chingy featuring Ludacris and Snoop Dogg, "Holidae In"

Comment: Explicit reference included as usual with these gangster rappers, but NASCAR's Mike McCarthy said last year so many of today's pop, rock, and rap music use words which would fail his seventh-grade daughter's spelling test. ("Staind," "Uncle Kracker," and "Trapt" were his most notable references.)

Nominee: Missy Elliott, "I'm Really Hot"

Comment: Too much alcohol and marijuana in the song. Her handle should not be "misdemeanor" but "felony".

Nominee: Twista featuring Kanye West and Jamie Foxx, "Slow Jamz"

Comment: Gangster rapper Carl Mitchell's debut album has a title which refers to homicide bombers, and no, homicide bombers aren't new -- the Japanese had "divine wind" homicide bombers in WWII. Explicit sexual propositions.

To top it all off, I decined a $25 ticket to see Chris Rice and Rachael Lampa because Mr. Mitchell was on the same festival ticket, when I could pay $35 to see my friend and now (once again) voice teacher sing in a contest for $3,250. I chose my friend who didn't win the big prize, but I would rather hear the friend sing. Considering now what we're attempting, you can understand why. (Panis Angelicus).

Nominee: Franz Ferdinand, "Take Me Out"

Comment: Do people today know the meaning of the name of this "band"? Sadly, too many kids today do not thanks to the outcome-based education and self-esteem studies.

Nominee: New Found Glory, "All Downhill From Here"

Comment: Odes to doomed relationships as pessimistic as their titles. Too obscene. As I said above, pessimism can result in tragedy, as I've learned from others over the years, and in a study at the 2001 National Right to Life Convention.

Nominee: White Stripes, "The Hardest Button to Button"

Comment: Singer recalling how he stopped his baby brother’s crying by sticking pins in a doll, voodoo style makes me wonder if an occult is being promoted.

Whatever happens at the MTV VMA's, the doors to the Oval Office will be open, and there might be a LONG line at the Oval Office once this dirty ditty ends. MTV is hoping this trumps Republican National Convention coverage that week.

This is where many of those MTV artists expect to be found afterwards -- in the Oval Office (behind the pace car).

Some of you conclusions are absolutely ridiculous. Cant't write a song about lonesomeness and doomed relationships? DAMN, there goes over half of the greatest music in history.

Can't go to the same festival as Twista because his album mocks homicide bombers with the name "Kamikaze". I took the liberty of a googeling kamikaze to see what else mocks homicide bombers.

Kamikaze Karate.
Kamikaze Burgers.
Kamikaze Records (No its not twista's, they do Rockabilly!)
Kamikaze Pub
Kamikaze Cowboy
Kamikaze Games
Kamikaze USA (Martial Arts Suppliers)
Kamikaze WebShop
Kamikaze Comets
Kamikaze Drink recipes
Kamikaze girls
Kamikaze Cafe
It wasnt until about 30 hits down i got "Information on the Kamikaze pilots". Ever think that maybe twista wasn't making references to homicide bombers and maybe just thought it was a cool word like millions of other people/products/companies did?

Oh and that "Ganster Rapper" Kanye West, have you heard his new song, "Jesus Walks"?

Don't care about any of these bands. And none, I note with satisfaction, are Goth.

Tinfoil time...author of this piece needs to get a grip on reality.

I've been enjoying your posts for years, Ivan, but never pictured you as a Goth - not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. :-)

are you serious with this?

the real problem is that all of this music is crappy... not that it's too depressing or not positive enough!

Here is a link to the hottest band I've heard all year: The Solution! Featuring Nick Royale (singer/guitar player from The Hellacopters) playing drums, and Scott Morgan (Detroit's godfather of soul/rock... played with MC5, Stooges, and The Rationals) on vocals and songwriting, this record is HOT!

Check out the video for their single! http://www.wildkingdom.se/videos/TheSolution-Ihavetoquityou.wmv

Anyone who likes rockin soul and blues music should check it out! Their record is only out in Scandinavia right now but the singer/songwriter is from Detroit and searching for a US record label. If you like the music check out their site: http://www.scottmorganmusic.com/scott_soulmover.html

You can buy the record for US $17 postage paid... I bought 3 copies for friends, everyone loves this record! What better way to say STUFF IT to the weirdo Hollywood/MTV/corporate rock goons, than buying REAL music, made for REAL people, with REAL instruments?

This is truly, THE SOLUTION!

The MTV Video Music Awards is the home of the worst junk of "commercial popular music".  Newsmax said earlier this year the dearth of symphony orchestras is a sad thing, and I admit that is a fact.

I can't stand MTV or any of their sister networks.

The death of the symphony orchestra.  For someone who aspires to sing in amateur symphonies and enjoys the love of singing, and having been associated with a splendid operatic singer, that is not a good thing.  While the quality of music is growing, few want to be involved in chamber music.  That's very sad, especially to those who enjoy chamber music, such as myself. Real music is sung in chamber music with beautiful voices, and there are few of us who aspire to sing like the aces. I know I am one who likes to sing like them.

I have not seen this band but have several of their albums where they performed (and even had to transcribe) other people's music (much of it from the 1920s and 1930s):

Basta Catalogue Page: The Beau Hunks

There are even some live video tapes and DVD.

Then there is THIS guy:
