Pit bull attacks boy, 11, swimming in Sandy River The 21/2-year-old dog, which police say bit a man on Saturday at the same park, is under quarantine

TROUTDALE -- Police said a pit bull attacked an 11-year-old Troutdale boy as he swam Thursday afternoon in the Sandy River. Police said it was the same dog that on Saturday bit a 42-year-old Northeast Portland man.
Sgt. Steve Bevens of the Troutdale Police Department said Cody Waddell jumped from a rock into the river at about 3:30 p.m. at the east end of Glenn Otto Community Park when a 21/2-year-old pit bull named Angel bit him on the left forearm. Doctors at Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center in Gresham closed the wound with 11 stitches.
"This was a pretty nasty bite," Bevens said. "It looked more like a knife wound because the boy was falling when he was bitten."
Bevens said the dog's owner, Robert I. Miller, 24, of Gresham, left before police arrived, telling police later Thursday that he had to get to work.
Angel was taken from Miller and put into a 10-day quarantine, Bevens said. The dog's fate rests with Multnomah County Animal Services officials.
On Saturday, Angel and Miller were at the same location at the park where Thursday's attack occurred when Arthur Goldberry, 42, was bitten on the leg, a wound that required 28 stitches. Bevens said Goldberry developed complications from the wound and had to be taken from Legacy Mount Hood to Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center in Portland.
On Tuesday, a 7-year-old Aloha boy was attacked and mauled by two pit bulls. Although his wounds were serious, the boy was spared further damage by a 51-year-old woman who came to his aid. -- Stuart Tomlinson

How could they not know what to do with this dog?
You seem fixated with Pit Bull stories...
What's up?
Kill it.
If you look, you can find scores of stories about police dogs biting innocent bystanders. These people sustain serious injuries in most cases.
Statistics report over 4 million people are bitten by dogs in a given year. Given that information, and the press' love of hysteria, you can see how it's easy to come up with a stream of "PIT BULL BITES (fill in the blank)!!!!" articles.
Sad to say, there are people in this country who want "bad" dogs. Their idea of a good dog is one who will bite a person they (the owners) don't like. Currently, the "pit bull" is their favorite type of dog, followed closely by the Rottweiler.
Dog experts know that irresponsibility, coupled with the above desire for a "bad" dog, is a recipe for trouble.
Nine times out of 10, a dog involved in a biting incident is off leash, on or off his owner's property. The dog is twice as likely to be an unneutered male, and to have had no training whatsoever, and little if any Veterinary care.
Man I hate pit bulls. They should be outlawed!!!
I know I'm going to be flamed from all the pitbull owners who own "gentle" dogs.
Seems to me the problem is pretty obvious. The dog has an idiot for an owner.
