I was wondering the same thing, LOL! Actually I think I've read an argument that Tolkien was somewhat influenced by "Snow White". Also I know he drew some of the Dwarf names from the Norse eddas, so maybe there's a seven in there somewhere.
Could be! Seven has been a mystical number for a long time, after all.
