Do you know, or have you heard on the local news, if this will be affecting air travel?
It sounds like you were pretty well prepared. How long was your power out? Mine was only out for two days but my parents didn't have any for ten days.
Hunting Towers? I eat regularly at Chadwicks in old town, which had about three feet of Potomac in it. I was up in NYC during Isabel, and down this way right after it. We caught the upper edge of it up there. Lots of wind, rain and trees falling down.
I live in the worst apartment complex that I have ever been in right now. I hope that this place gets just damaged enough that I can break the lease.
Worst wind I ever saw was on a field op. A shelter half tent uprooted and disappeared over the horizon. The guys in the tent didn't wake up. One of their sleeping bags inflated and blew right off of them, also disappearing instantaneously into the darkness. I have been in rain where you have to stop in the middle of the street and put on your flashers, because you cannot see past the front of the hood. I expect a hurricane to be a combination of those two phenomena.
I am in Wilmington.Off and on rain today.Another year another storm!
We were very lucky. Power was out for only a few hours. I don't think I will be staying next time.
We were without power once for about 4 days or so, after an ice storm.
Thank God for Sterno and a kerosene heater.
Hope everybody avoids the storm.
"I don't think I will be staying next time."
I don't blame you.
No, it's accurate. The last VORTEX message is at the NHC site; however, the last VORTEX was last year.
No recon this year has found a tight enough center for a VORTEX message, so there hasn't been one. All there have been are the RECCO lines.
Right on, newbie without a profile. Care to share your career path and enlighten us a bit about the source of your expertise? What area of the nation do you reside?
No effect om Greensboro. Im in Raleigh, normal weather, 90 miles east of Greensboro. Same for tommorow.
Your daughter's travel plans should be okay. It is projected to still be off the coast of SC tomorrow afternoon.
"This is a direct result of the Clinton Administration's failure to adequately address the threat from tropical storms and hurricanes."
All storms and hurricanes should be put in a Dingle-Norwood lockbox. For the children.
I lived in Virginia Beach for 10 years prior to moving to Homestead Florida. Went through Bonnie there but spent most of my time at hurricane parties when weather picked up.
Nobody took hurricanes seriously in the area. After last summer, I'm sure there will a bit more seriousness about the weather.

I think you're right on both counts.
