Other consequences of gas emissions are the dangerous and misleading indications that the flight instruments would provide. Evidence for this has been found in the fact that old played-out oil wells have become invigorated, fully recharged in many sites. Thanks, I didn't know TGold had died. He was one of the most brilliant minds of the 20th (and early 21st) century. Freeman Dyson wrote the foreword to the book by that name ("Deep Hot Biosphere") which I highly recommend, and will try to post a link to later.

Emissions of methane have been blamed for sudden ship sinkings in the "Bermuda Triangle"; however it is my understanding that these are thought to originate from spontaneous decomposition of methane clathrate deposits on the sea floor.

the source for the Tungesta explosion

Uh, no. The Tunguska event was the explosion just before ground impact of a chunk of rock (or perhaps small comet), not a methane explosion. Similarly, the Permian-Triassic extinction (like the later, less severe Kretaceous-Tertiary extinction) was caused by impact.
