How old is your sone with Asbergers? My nephew is 6 and diagnosed PDD Autism, high functioning. He is a lot to handle, but a really sweet boy. He also favors younger children.
Jeff is now 12, and for the most part, you would never guess there is anything wrong with him.
I got him into therapy, speech, physical and occupational, at 2 yrs old. We thought he was autistic, he would never look at me, and all he could say was "nuga nuga nuga"... He started special ed pre school on his 3rd birthday, and went to regular kindergarden on time. I firmly belive it was with the early intervention is what makes him "normal" now. I know another boy with PDD/NOS and him mom cant "face" putting him in classes, and therapy. At 9 years old, he acts about 2 and it will only get worse. I used love and a lot of disipline, which some moms cant handle, and thats why he is doing so well. His pediatrician cant belive how far he has come along.
There were lots of times where I would put a pillow under his head when he was banging it on the floor, have to hold him tight with both arms till he calmed down, leave stores because he couldnt handle the stimuli, have to put him in his room to run the vaccum because he couldnt handle the noise. He had 5 surgeries by the time he was 5 years old...
His major problem at this time is just getting along with other kids. PDD is a developental delay, and Jeff is at about 8 years old when it comes to dealing with other kids. He has a hard time with kids his own age, but no trouble with adults. He plays golf with my husband, and he likes to play with the "big boys" at the club.
I love all my children, but Jeff is a special gift to me, and I am blessed to have him
