This is his family.

The boy with leukemia is on the far left...Matthew's friend is on the far right. As is the case with most homeschooling families in a group (these guys are in our church homeschool support group), the entire family interacts, you know? All the kids (except for the teenagers usually) interact with each other...interaction isn't just with one's own age.

So Matthew is good friends with the boy who is his age, but also interacts with the ill boy and even with the younger ones. Same with Joshua...he interacts even with the older ones.

It's one of the good things about homeschooling and being part of a group...kids relate with each other across many ages. And although homeschool teenagers might not "play" with the younger kids, they seem to be very aware of them and watch out for them. It's really a neat kind of socialization. Note that Jeremy is in to anything "Star Wars"? When he and Matthew get together, it's mind-boggling to hear them talk!

Heh-heh--sounds like me and my best friend in 2nd grade :) One thing I did back then was have my Mom buy me Star Wars folders so that I had them with me in school in case I wanted to draw pictures of Star Wars. And of course I had a Star Wars lunchbox with a Star Wars thermos inside--think I went through several of those plus a Marvel Comics lunchbox :)

It's neat the kids interact across age groups like that--kinda like having extra big brothers/sisters!

Sounds like a great party to me, 2J! Glad they both had fun.

How is the older brother doing? Any updates there?
