I don't have a DVD burner...but I thought the disc ecurbh had at Entmoot were video CDs of some sort.
In any case, it sure would be nice to be able to play these things on the TV rather than having to rig up the laptop to hook to the computer...not to mention if the fan on the computer comes on, I'm done. Can't watch video after that.
Make that rig up the laptop to hook to the TV.
If I get them to work I'll let you know.
Woo! Hoo!
Good news about Bay!
Please do!
I understood what you meant.
That's got to be annoying! My computer gets way too warm after about two hours of playing videos, so I usually don't watch more than that. But shutting off completely is just weird. Did you ever find what the exact problem is?
It doesn't completely shut off...but the video loses so many frames that it's unwatchable, and it goes out of sync with the sound.
I don't know that there's a specific reason. But it's beyond aggravating.
If I wasn't so broke...it'd be something of a motivator to get a new machine one of these days. This one isn't ancient, but it's not new anymore, either, by any means.
That's a shame. I was so happy to get my new computer, but I need a decent machine. I hope you can afford a new one sometime relatively soon...
Wish it was something I could justify...but except for the video thing, my current computer is perfectly adequate. More than adequate, really.
And if it would stop DOING that...I'd be all set!
Grrrrr...
Laptops are usually pretty expensive to repair, but it might be worth taking it in somewhere and asking whether the problem's fixable. If it's a hardware issue, you might just be able to get it repaired.
Thanks.... I am gonna take a nap now. See you all on second morning.
I don't think it's a hardware problem...I think it's a design flaw.
But I could probably try a few more things before giving up. There are software utilities that will adjust fan speed and such, I think. That might help.
When you try to play the files, are you doing it right from the cd or do you copy them to the hard drive first? That can make things run more smoothly.
Copied to the hard drive.
I figured you probably would have, but I know running dvds makes my fan come on a lot faster, so thought I'd just ask the question.
I'm going to try a few things tonight if I have time, or tomorrow if I don't. I'll keep you posted.
For one thing, I can't remember when I last updated the BIOS. COULD be that'd make a difference...I dunno.
Hmm...
Shall I?
