The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

We got home just in time for Abigail's midnight meal. elf-boy is sacked out on the couch. They are doing great. Austin had a very big day today. Tomorrow is the party... should be an even bigger day tomorrow.

bittygirl had her 2 month well baby check today. 24in. tall, 12 lbs. 12 oz. heavy. She is in the 80th percentile for weight, and the 95th percentile for height. She got 4 shots today :-(

She did really well at the game tonight (I'm thinking that Toronto didn't show up since the score was 11-2 Rangers.) When we left, at 10pm, it was still 91 degrees. 'Twas a hot day today. I was worried about how she wouldtake the heat what with her having shots and all. Not an issue at all! She slept through most of the game.

This is an email I just got from Jerry Yonko. It's in all caps, so it's hard on the eyes, but easy on the heart. It sounds like differing kinds of scrub brushes would be appreciated.

---------------------

RICK, IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT ALL HERE WHO HAVE BEEN TOUCHED BY YOU AND YOUR ORGANIZATIONS THOUGHTS AND EFFORTS APPRECIATE WHAT YOU DO FOR US. IT IS HARD ENOUGH BEING AWAY FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS BUT TO HAVE A TOTAL STRANGER REACH OUT AND TOUCH US MEANS SO MUCH. THANKS FOR ALL FROM ALL!

I HAVE HAD SEVERAL REQUESTS FROM THE GUYS HERE FOR SCRUB BRUSHES. NOT FOR FLOORS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT BUT TO CLEANS PERSONAL GEAR AND EQUIPMENT. HAND BRUSHES OR POT BRUSHES WOULD BE MOST WELCOME. WE HAVE RECEIVED POPCORN OIL WITH COCONUT OIL MIXED IN. I THINK THAT WILL DO FOR US SO YOU CAN CONCENTRATE ON OTHER ENDEAVORS.

THE ATTITUDES HERE ARE VERY POSITIVE. THE GUYS AND GALS OF THE ARMED SERVICES ARE AWESOME. I AM AMAZED EACH DAY AT THE PROFESSIONALISM AND CAN DO SPIRIT THAT IS DISPLAYED ON A REGULAR BASIS. ALL AMERICANS SHOULD BE PROUD OF THEIR FAVORITE SONS AND DAUGHTERS AS THEY SHOW THAT WE AS A PEOPLE CARE ABOUT OTHERS AND ARE WELLING TO PUT OUR LIVES AND POCKETBOOKS IN JEOPARDY TO PROVE IT. GOD BLESS THEM ALL.

SAY HELLO TO KIMBERLY FOR ME AND GIVE YOURSELF A PAT ON THE BACK. YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE.

AGAIN, THANK YOU FROM ALL AT CAMP L. JERRY YONKO

IMO, the best way to enjoy THHGTTG the first time is in its original form, the radio play series. Adams put it into book form due to popular demand.

I think an American, not throughly immersed in English culture, humor etc. might find the book bizarre, even a bit daft, on first reading.

A side note: I should not write small treatises on literature, culture, humor, opinion, or Adams with such a high level of blood in my coffee stream :D

Morning! Promises to be a lovely weekend. Got another heap of veggies out of the garden last nite. Will try to post pics one of these days. We'll try to catch a movie today- either Arthur or I, Robot. But that'll be after my mid-month errands which includes a stop at Walmart. I just added scrub brushes to the list. I'll get a variety- including some tooth brushes.

Oh, and I also have a source for good (non-popcornified) coconut oil, if need be. We use a bit of it in our cooking.

If I was to find myself possessed* of a surplus of scrub brushes (and, per my screen name, I kinda know what would be suitable), where should I send them?

*On review:
somebody is going to suggest an exorcism. I know it, I just know it...

As always, so nice to hear!

What about manicure brushes? It sounds just like what he's talking about...you know, hand brushes?

This site sells them for 20 cents a piece...

Oh, and let me see if I got this straight:

1. A B-movie Tarzan actor keeps a collection of exotic beasties in cages.

2. His tiger gets out and roams the neighborhood.

3. While preparing to tranq-dart the critter, a local constable finds it necessary to use three or four* 9mm** FMJ*** bullets instead.

4. And the only person in all of this who is in any legal trouble is a woman who offered her eatin' pig**** as an attractant while the tiger was still at large.

Gotta wonder sometimes.

*So I heard.

**Purely conjecture. For sundry reasons, possibly astrological in origin, seems to be a popular caliber.

***More conjecture. I think most constabularies frown on the use of hollow-point or other expanding ammunition.

****As opposed to a pig kept (again for sundry reasons, possibly astrological in origin) as a pet.

Good morning!

I'm leaving in a very few minutes for a gig. This is the one where we started out with six or so people, and are now down to three. That's the downside, and I'm worried a bit about pulling it off.

On the upside...it means we each get a greater share of the pay...can't complain about that.

Thanks, as always, for posting that letter, winmag!

Mornin'

I'm havin' my coffee since I didn't have any afore I went to Lowes at 7:30. Got the ceiling paint I forgot the other day, the switch and outlet (and circuit tester).

Looked at plants and decided I have enough (although I need about 2-3 more ornamental grasses).

Ready to paint as soon as I get enough of the caffeine...I figger about Tuesday or so...

Was up late watchin' Desperado with Antonio Banderas. Wife's friend saw it recently and wanted wife to see it as they're getting together for lunch on Monday. Friend said "The Lord spoke to me thru that movie."

Best I could figger the Lord was sayin' "You shouldn't watch this movie." Pretty much Banderas shoots everybody in sight, sleeps with Salma Hayek and drives off into the sunset...now you don't need to see it.

LOL! - I was up really late, and I am not committed to staying up, but I still woke up early to feed horses.

"The Lord spoke to me thru that movie."

What did he say to your friend?
