Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Were they puffy? If so, they were probably sopapillas.Yep, that's the stuff. Puffy and kinda flaky and really good.
NOT diet food.
But the flatbread version wasn't bad. Not really a direct substitute, but a nice snack. Kinda like bagel chips, which I also like a lot.

First week of August I may go down to the Super Wal-Mart and see if I can get more flatbread and such. We have gigs the next two weekends - one this weekend and two next!
But I still wanna stock up one of these days.

There is an unsweetened variant called indian fry bread that is often used as a tortilla for tostadas. mmmmmm...indian fry bread....
Had an old Navajo woman cook some over an open fire for me once.

OK, if I make it there I'll check by the deli! Thanks for the tip...I woulda wandered lost otherwise. ;-)
And they have DaVinci syrups by the coffee, right? Is that where you said it was? The natural foods place has some now, but only a few flavors. Might be nice to check for others. I got vanilla...been using that one in a lot of things, since I can substitute it for both vanilla AND sweetener. Good in coffee, too.
