I had the same happen to me lately, and the only way to undo it, is to uninstall the video driver in the device screen (Right click My Computer - select properties, device manager, display adapter, right click on the video card, and click uninstall), reboot, and let windows xp set the card back up again... it will be normal again. This must be a hidden feature that MS has not talked about..... it happens to a lot of people on different machines..... independent of adapter or monitor

Really? System restore worked fine for me. A bit difficult to do while my head was tilted sideways, but it eventually worked.
