At 84, Moon cuts a curious figure in Washington, where he mingles with the city's power elite by dint of his dual roles as religious leader and media mogul. As a conservative, he claims close ties to US President George W. Bush and the Republican Party. To hold the event in the Dirksen building, the organization was required to find a senator willing to act as sponsor. But the identity of that senator remained a secret on Wednesday; the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, which approved the request, would not release the name.

Heh.  Approved by the Repubican controlled SRAC.  The lack of media coverage belies your ultra-left wing description, in this case, anyway.  Who has more to be embarrassed about here?

It looks more like a case of bait and switch on Moon's part.  Or just bait.  The solons didn't know a coronation was going to take place, and are backpedalling like crazy.  A case study for keeping religion out of government.

Well, maybe. But, if you assume that some dem Senator got a nice campaign contribtion, he would have signed anything. The absence of ultra-left wing media coverage tells me it was a dem Senator who sponsored Moon and then left it to the black Congressman to wait on him. I understand the Congressman wore white gloves through his worship of Moon.

We'll see, but my bet is that had it been a Republican Senator, one of the crapweasels would already have blown the whistle.
