Special Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Everyone has a "special purpose"...
LOL! YUCK!
It's the cleanup that gets me too. I love cooking for large groups though. Go figure!
I got spoiled at Entmoot with mrsksen, g'nad and suziq running the kitchen most of the time! Yummmmmmy!
Wow Rebelbase! That actually sounds GOOD!
I may have to try that recipe....
See you later, 2J!
Not that there's anything ~wrong~ with that....
*grin*
I'm a funkling Jerk...
"He hates these funkles..."
The neat family patchwork here is that they each have a neat story in themselves. The quilt above on the left hand side is made by ecurbh's grandma with scraps from clothes she and other family wore. And she noted what they were on the quilt.
On the other walls are other quilts.... Below, The blue and white star pattern quilt, my mom made... with fabric I bought her as present with the pattern. And the center one above is another one made by Bruce's grandma, and given to us as a wedding gift.
The green one on the right was another wedding present from my friend Kay.... and was a very big and very neat surprise. When we were going through my mom's things after she died, we found that quilt top, unfinished. I was pretty sure she didn't make it, my friend Kay said it was hand-made. We decided that my mom probably bought it at an antique store or garage sale, intending to finish it someday. I don't sew, so I gave it to Kay, who does.
She's had it now ten years, I had forgotten all about it. But she remembered, she researched it more, finished the quilt, and gave it back to us as a present.... in the corner of it on the back, she had a silkscreen done with the wording from our wedding invitation, and a note with it.
Very cool.
That green quilt story still gets me teary-eyed.
All of them are such lovely and heart-felt gifts. They truly reflect what beautiful people you and ecurbh are.
I thought it was cool.... and has some cool gift ideas in it for either people who sew, or want to give such momentos... Good ideas for parents... for little things to do with old clothes the kids have grown out of. They may like getting a quilt for graduation that has little bits of shirts they grew up in!
Well, we're certainly not very "quilty." But we've been trying to figure out what to do with all of Jr's old sports jerseys. Don't just want to box them up and put them away. We've thought about making pillows. But a quilt could be cool.
Me too.... it was a ~really~ neat surprise. And I didn't want to ~use~ it.... It would get pet hair on it and shouldn't be washed too much. But I wanted to live with the quilts and see them, rather than put them in a drawer.
Maybe keep them and find someone else to actually make the quilt if you guys don't sew. I think he'd think it was cool!
Same here. The one on the opposite wall wall in the first pic was given to me probably 20 years ago, and has never been used. It has stayed put away, only to be seen when being packed up for a move. These are too precious to use, but too beautiful to hide.
I think you both picked the perfect way to ~use~ your wedding quilts.
Whenever you're in the room, you're surrounded by the love of the folks who made them for you. That is truly a wonderful thing!
Now, all you need to do is tuck my gift under your pillow and you're all set! *smile*
????????????????????
Hmmm, interesting idea, but I think that just sounds like a fire hazard!
I have returned.
In dialup hell but here. Tried to log on for hours and finally found out that the local phone line had been cut. Now I'm patched through an 800 number to Waco. Kinda iffy that.
Kinda busy. Aunt Cheryl and I are babysitting her grandkids today. 4 and 5 years old. We think it's about time for our nap now.... but they're prolly not gonna let us nap. LOL
But, Hello Everyone!
