Am calling on FR help b/c they successfully helped me with my last computer problem. I assembled my computer, MB and case. Everything works OK, accept for my digital camera. When I plug it into a USB port, it does not recognize the connection. I have tried the same USB port with my printer, and it prints correctly. (2 USB ports are wired directly to the board, so even if I had the other ports miswired, these are not.)
Here's what happens. I plug the camera into the USB, I turn the camera on, I open my computer, and nothing. Before I upgraded MB, and new HD, it automatically recognized by digital camera, and I could easily download pictures. Here, it just does not recognize the camera is connected at all.
I have tried to clean the old software (Kodak) and reload several times to no avail. What should I try. The camera still works fine. Is there any chance the cable has gone bad? Appreciate your comments.
Not breaking news, but maybe you need to install new drivers? My pc seemed to do the same thing, but I finally got the port in the back of the tower to recognize the camera drive.
You meant to put this in BROKEN, not BREAKING.
Have you installed a driver for your camera? If not, go to manufacturer's website and download the driver.
Also check the bios and make sure the USB port are enabled
I use the word "should" a lot because USB isn't as plug-and-play as it's touted to be.
I have loaded, wiped clean, and re-loaded the Kodak shareware software that is supposed to install the drivers for my camera.
I am pretty sure the bios is set correctly for USB ports b/c it recognizes my printer when I plug the printer USB cable in.
Does the camara need to be on?
That is a roger. So, what I do is after it is plugged in, turn the camera off, if it is not already off, and then turn the camera. When the camera is on, it sends the signal (or it used to at least) to where the computer would recognize it.
Now, I turn it on and off and on, and nothing. For the longest time I thought it had something to do with USB ports, but it does not make sense to me if the USB port works with my printer.
Buy an new camara, exactly the same, check out that cable. If it works, switch it with yours and return it. Had to do that with my cordless drill batteries.
