Good morning IG, rain has moved out here for a spell and it feels good.
You told me once before but need that information again, I need a good eating corn to plant, that stuff I planted this year is small, real small. You told me what to put in the soil to help it grow but I need that one seed that gives me a golden, sweet corn. Freep me by private reply if you would. Toby
G'mornin Toby. You need lots of nitrogen to grow good corn. Plenty of nitrogen and regular watering will make up for less than perfect soil.
We like the "Peaches & Cream" vaiety of sweetcorn. It is a mixture of white & yellow kernels so you have to watch it carefully, it can be almost mature before you realize it.
I'm sure you know this, but I'll say it anyway. To check for maturity, you slip the silks back gently and stick your thumb nail into a plump round kernel. If milk flies from the kernel when you pop it, the corn is ready to eat.
