Who makes the best pickup truck?

Posted on 06/24/2004 3:42:22 PM PDT by winodog

I am shopping for a new truck. I own a 97 Ford 3/4 ton diesel. Its been a very good truck but I had to replace the transmission at 45,000 miles. I need at least a 3/4 ton. I am debating on going with the diesel again. If I get a regular truck I will probaly go with Chevrolet. If a diesel probaly Ford again. I was hoping for some input from freepers. I never do vanities so I hope everyone will excuse this one.

I have not had one, but I have heard to avoid the Trail Blazer.

I could be all wrong on this, but I think almost all the heavy duty trucks use NV transmissions, so you might be getting the same transmission even if you switch makes.

Ditto all that.

I don't have heavy hauling needs, but I do need a dependable, quality truck.

Toyota Tundra fills the bill.

Take a look at your local classifieds. You'll notice tons of Ford, Chevy and Dodge trucks for sale. You may see one or two Toyota trucks at the most. People who buy Toyota trucks usually hang on to them. Its getting harder and harder to find a good used Toyota truck without getting your wallet raped. Ive owned 6 Toyota trucks so far and they all exceeded my expectations. I put over 300k miles on one engine alone, and as far as I know that engine is still running in a buddy of mines truck. Whats sad is Toys used to be reasonably priced, but now yuppies who will never use a truck for what it was intended have made the prices soar. I drive a Tacoma Xtra cab, but if I could afford it id be driving a TUNDRA baby.

I have noticed that its hard to find a barely used truck for sale. If the economy was as bad as libs claim there would be tons of trucks with 20-30,000 miles on them for sale.

I use to think that was your best bet instead of buying new. But its hard to find a truck like that and they are making pretty good deals on new ones.

Consider a late '60s F-250. For the price of a single new truck with all the plastic gizmos, you can buy a few old stalwarts, and cannabilize the worst ones for parts.

I have a 72 ford f150 with 52,000 miles on it. It is in excellant shape. I am thinking about selling it. It has the original carpet and uphosltery is not cracked or torn. Neither is the dash.
