'Panther on the Loose' Is a Cat (French city surrenders to house cat)

MARSEILLE, France (Reuters) - The southern French city of Marseille called off a three-week hunt for a black panther on Tuesday after the animal sighted by several residents turned out to be a large house cat.

"The 'panther' is just a black house cat -- a very big one though," said a spokeswoman for the local prefecture, adding the animal was about 24 inches long and weighed some 22 pounds.

Police deployed dozens of searchers this month after reports that a blank panther was roaming around the nearby Calanques area, popular with tourists for its creeks, rocks and beaches.

Searchers finally caught up with the animal and identified it as a cat but were still unable to catch it, the spokeswoman added.

No, unfortunately.
But teh headlines would read "mad cow" considering my cat has the coloration of one.

Wonder why they thought teh cat was a panther- besides it's size, did it attack someone?
*chuckle*

You have a Klyben Cat too, eh?

Weird how they seem to grow on you, and command attention.
If we send both of our cats to France, they'll surrender to us and we can rule the place...

The cat is a she... she's the largest female cat I've ever seen, 26 pounds in this photo. She's slimmed down since then.

LOL, I call that "egg". I don't know, I think most cats sitting all rounded up - tightly unlike here - look like eggs, or at least like chickens roosting to hatch an egg!

But yes, when they're a bit large and loose like that - I can see calling it a "meat loaf". LOL

I'm somewhat embarassed to say I call it meatloaf as well. But it only qualifies as a meatloaf if you can't see any of their paws - all four of them have to be tucked in under the dustruffle.

Sweet Sasha is a gentle giant. She would never conquer a country, but I suppose if they're surrendering anyway she might as well take advantage of it.

My cat, pictured in post 24, is attitude extreme.
Clone a couple hundred copes of her and then have them all converge on the same place at the same time.
Probably by handing the enemy a can of catfood and a can opener and then running like heck.
Since my cat weighs in at 24 pounds, a couple of clones of her running to the same point in geographic space may cause an earthquake.

That is, if she doesn't try to limb everyone she runs into by biting their achilles tendon first.

LOL!
My Kearen would conquer and then demand to be placated with food and catnip mice.
She is somewhat spoiled, and highly demanding for being a mere 'little' kitty.

I'm not sure why I felt the need to post this photo, but I sure did have fun making it.

Not exactly high quality, but then again I'm working with MSPaint.

OMG...rface, if a big housecat can take over Marseilles, I bet our Babycat could take over the whole of France singlehandedly!

For those of you who have never met Baby, she's only about 15 pounds, but she's all CATTITUDE!

(The veterinarian's assistant is afraid of her.)

LOL well, it's not much worse than "Egg"!

Just about whenever I'd see a cat (mine or others') all tucked up that way - back arched tensely, legs "gone" - I'd call them "Egg" or "Eggie".

They just have that egg shape from the side, at least.

Scary, isn't it?
