Bush OKs $606 Million to Fund UN Standing Army

Posted on 06/22/2004 6:57:51 PM PDT by MarkMcM

As if kissing every powder-blue hiney thats paraded in front of him isn't bad enough, now it seems (according to the June 28 issue of The New American) President Bush is pushing to spend $606 million (Defense Dept dollars) to help train a UN standing army. More of our tax dollars spent on UN social elite globalists. How lovely. My disenchantment with President Bush all started with his amnesty for illegals scheme and things seem to be going downhill. I wonder... is he trying to make me not vote for him??

Isn't the US Military the same thing as the UN Army? It seems anytime a UN action occurs it is the US Military that executes it.

They know our only other option is to sit it out and let Kerry take it.

No.

The idea of a UN standing army is dangerous. From time to time there are people who propose that all armed forces in the world be put under UN control.

You best not start a thread like that; everybody will know you're not telling the truth right off the bat.

Has he approved an appropriation, as the headline states? Or is he advocating an appropriation, as is stated in the body?
Do you have sources for this? Can you post your sources?
Is this a bill before Congress? Please elaborate.

I think this is the bill in question: The Global Peacekeeping Operations Initiative Act of 2004. THOMAS has the details. Looks like something that got cooked up at the G8 summit the other day.

Yo, Congress allocates the money, the President's job is to use what is allocated and when needed ask for more -- or less.

Okay, okay, I know we seem to have slipped into being an imperial republic with the President as elected Emperor -- but I was hoping and praying that the somewhat evidenced onset of Empire was not the hard truth -- that instead we still operate according to the expectations established by and the limitations constructed within the charter -- the Constitution.

Do you hold that the Constitution is a forgotten, non-operative thing that is long past its day?

When the guy from the GWB for re-election campaign called me tonight to solicit funds, I asked him about it and he said he 'thought it was accurate'. Thats good enough for me.

The last paragraph of this article on the NewAmerican website:

One of the most stunning developments to come out of the Bush administration’s war on Iraq has been almost completely ignored by the media cartel. Incredibly, the Bush Defense and State Departments are jointly proposing to establish, with the apparent blessing of the White House, a 75,000-strong army of international "peacekeepers." Called the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI), this astonishing scheme calls for recruiting and training primarily Third World peacekeepers, to the tune of over $600 million over the next five years.

Check out the quote from Edward Mortimer at the top of the article. Where's the bucket, I'm going to throw up.
