How about a bulb garden from pro-flowers? They're great. Water them, they grow, then they bloom. Much more entertaining than a bouquet.

Rats. Bulb gardens seem to be seasonal. We got one in february and it was really nice. They do have an herb garden, though. Does she cook much?

Could also do a Vermont Teddy Bear. I haven't met a woman yet who wouldn't like one.

She cooks for the two of them. Nothing "fancy" tho and I doubt she's looked in a cookbook in years.

I tried to think, but it didn't work.

I'll keep trying to think of something....

I agree, but renting her is a very clever thing. That site is a little lefty, but I like that is a creative way of supporting artisan agriculture. (better a gimmick than my tax $!)

This site has some nice gifts, too.

I think flowers would be nice too, though! Maybe one of those package deals that include a bouquet and a box of chocolates?

Let me think on it a minute Corin! Ought to be really nice easy things on the net that can be delivered by Friday.

Speaking of presents.... UPS man just brought a new present from Lil and Big ol Freeper! A gas Coleman lantern we wanted.... and the card says "May it be a light for you, when all other lights go out" WOW! - How neat. and very appreciated! Thank you!

When I was in college and all of my girl friends were busy getting themselves married, my favorite gift was beautiful oil lamps. This is the next best thing. Hope you guys get lots of use out of it! Colemans last forever.

"Ugh, I had a nightmare about work last night, which is so unfair, it should count against my hours, don't you think?"

Yes, in fact I think you get overtime for working in your sleep :)

"Heh...lately it depends on who shows up. But mainly fiddle, tin whistle and low whistle, mandolin, tenor banjo, banjo and guitar. Since some of us double on instruments (I play tenor banjo and mando, for example), not all instruments can play at once...the mix depends on the tune."

That does sound Appalachian--cool! How close is the mandolin to the banjo?

"My mother wasted no time in letting me know how miserable her life has been since she got back on Monday morning. Strange thing is, I just tuned her out completely. Seriously, I saw her mouth moving but didn't hear a thing."

That's handy to be able to do! :)
