Hey Corin, I know it's a quiet day here in the Hole, but you could at least ping me to interesting threads where you're yelling at weirdoes...

Do not hassle the dwarf.

Join the club.

I'm not quite to the point of resorting to playing solitaire (I detest the basic version of that game), but I'm close.

The problem is, I have work to do. It's just mindnumbingly dull. Loads of cut-and-paste right now - not something that takes brain power.

This is why I'm a writer - use the wasted cycles to think up plots, scribble them down on my notepad, write 'em up when I get home.

I need to think of SOMEthing to do when it's slow.

On the other hand, after July first, things pick up VERY quickly. So I should enjoy this while I can.

I can always read...and engage in more tinfoil hat reflection on Harry Potter books-to-come.

I'm working on a document here that I'd just as soon forget. I'm too distracted.

Luke and Nana should be on their way from North Carolina, Jr of course is in New York, wife is somewhere in Eastern Europe...and my Mom just called to say she's not well enough to travel.

I had thought that, after her recent episode, that she was really being optimistic in thinking she could come and visit this week. But she wanted to come so we could go see her sister in Virginia Beach. Apparently though there is still "something" showing up with her heart. She doesn't know what that something is. But she hasn't been feeling well.

It's okay that she's not coming to take care of Luke. Luke will be okay at home with Nana and Jr. It's a combination of the responsible, yet physically incapable and the irresponsible, yet physically capable. Actually Nana is doing well enough now that she can take care of Luke's meals, etc. The only thing that remains an issue is pooping the dog, and he doesn't ask her to take him out.

Ooh, I'm good at tinfoil hat thinking! (are these wizarding caps we're talking about?)

Trust me, anything you come up with, someone's had a weirder idea. HP fandom is way too big, and being... generally younger than LotR fandom, tends to be weirder. Conspiracy theories abound.

Or we could plot out a wacky story that I then force you to write...

Afternoon, thread!

So far today's adventure has been a snapping turtle. Yesterday there was a little turtle that had crawled into a pothole, evidently to lay eggs; a few hours later it had crawled back to wherever it came from. Today, in exactly the same spot, was a big snapping turtle, which I deduced had come to eat the other turtle's eggs. However instead of crawling back where it came from, it crawled up on the porch and got stuck! So I had to carry it back down to the pond--while avoiding having my fingers bitten off! Coaxed it into a big bucket from a safe distance. Those things sure snap fast!--almost like a rattler.

I thought the first two movies were pretty close to the books and cut less out from the books than the third, though none of them departed from the books too much--mostly cutting stuff out rather than changing anything. But of course I probably didn't notice some details Jen did. I dunno, what's your take on that, Jen? I thought the third one had to cut a lot of stuff out that didn't lend itself to visual depiction, mostly related to the "mystery" aspect of the story; also they didn't really explain what happened to Snape after the tree incident like the book did.

So Rosie, when you write, what do you write? Jen, glad to hear you're going to write some tonight--hope that means a new chapter is in the works! I've had some new story ideas inspired by HP and "Dracula"/"'Salem's Lot" over the past few days but haven't had a chance to write them up yet--still working on Parts 2-3 of my article.

Maybe tinfoil is a bit too strong a way to put it...but there are some things that make me wonder. And characters I still like more than they appear to deserve so far.

Or we could plot out a wacky story that I then force you to write...

That sounds a bit scary...

I know less than half of these characters half as well as I'd like. . .

Hmm--maybe I'll write a story about a Harry Potter fan who forces another Harry Potter fan to write forged letters in Harry's name, as part of a plot to get Harry in trouble. . . :)

Has anyone come up with a plot combining Harry Potter with anime? Debating whether to combine HP with Kenshin or Ranma. . . :)

Meh-heh-heh. Do you prefer, say, hymn-singing vampire slayers? Or galactic empires? What are your feelings on dragons, and are you more satirical or sympathetic in your writing?

Just teasing...

Ouch, ouch. It's been done, I guarantee it. Anything's been done. I saw an HP/LotR/Buffy the Vampire Slayer story once.

It'd have to be Ranma, Kenshin's too real-world, other than the impossible swordfights. And Ranma's at least 30th century.
