When I had my other home in Big Bear, CA, a big old brown bear would come right on down through my property about twice a year. There really aren't any fences there. It just came off the mountain, crossed a dangerous road, then hopped in the lake to get it's load of fish. Danged bear could catch more fish than I could.
The "flat-landers" (that's what locals called them) would get as close as they could to take photos of the bear catching fish. If the bear had gotten too close to the folks, the bear would have been killed. Sad. It just wanted some good lake food. Then it would meander back up into the mountains with its belly full.
Pumas, on the other hand, scare me to death. Big cats ready to pounce on you or your dogs. And they come out at night. All you can see is their yellow eyes. I always carried a rock at night to scare those felines away.
I have re written the Pledge of Allegence. "Hey Flag, Yea America, Let's Roll. Amen!" The Amen is optional of course and not allowed in public school.
