Word For The Day, Wednesday, June 16, 2004
Webster's New Third Internantional Dictionary | Wednesday, June 16, 2004We | Slip 18

Posted on 06/16/2004 5:44:41 AM PDT by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Haven’t checked my mood ring yet. Y’all behave yourselves, ya hear? Principal JimRob is still out of town. I expect the utmost respect on this thread today. The Mods have been overworked lately.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer.

vagary noun:
Pronunciation: Pronounced about three different ways. Take your pick.
Etymology: Probably fr. Latin

1) Archaic: Journey, excursion, tour (Sea Dragon’s adventures?)
2) Archaic: An aimless digression
3) Obsequious: (a) A departure from the regular, lawful or proper course of conduct. (b)Caper, frolic
4) A departure from the normal, expected or logical order of course. (a) A capricious, eccentric or unpredictable action. (b) A change that is hard to predict or explain.

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

RULES: You must use the WFTD in a sentence for an A. For a + after your “A,” you must bring in a link of the word usage or something funny, a poem or some prose that will elucidate the word for us.

If you need to know how to link, come to the Subbie’s desk in the front of the class.

Good morning Miss Slippy! Thank you for opening the classroom. I think Skull & Bones fits most of the definitions of vagary.

Labs are no good as guard dogs.

I beg to differ.............no one can even pull into my driveway without mine going absolutely nuts. Trying to let anyone in the house is murder.

A+ for you, SG.

How possibly can the Skull and Bones Society be secret when we all know about it? The Yalies couldn't keep a secret if their life depended on it.

Mine wants to hug and lick visitors to death as if she has never seen a human before.

Mine try to slobber the intruders into submission. The only time they bark is when I'm on the opposite side of the fence and they want to be with me.

Speaking of secrets, what the heck is wrong with Time magazine disclosing the undisclosed location of our man Cheney? They should be charged with treason.

I made the monumental mistake of going back into my bedroom after I had gotten dressed this morning......next thing I knew.....it was nearly 9am.

I quit subscribing the Time Magazine years ago. The only good part of the Mag was the medical portion.

The Editor should be wearing panties on his head.

As someone pointed out, if he finds Bush's appeal to the Vatican so distasteful, maybe he could appeal to the Vatican to support his Pro-Abort, Pro-Gay agenda....

You guys are lucky.....mine won't let anyone near the house without sounding the alarm

Granted.....I'm not really complaining, considering I'm home alone most of the time and live in the middle of nowhere.
