Word For The Day, Wednesday, June 16, 2004
Webster's New Third Internantional Dictionary | Wednesday, June 16, 2004We | Slip 18

Posted on 06/16/2004 5:44:41 AM PDT by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Haven’t checked my mood ring yet. Y’all behave yourselves, ya hear? Principal JimRob is still out of town. I expect the utmost respect on this thread today. The Mods have been overworked lately.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer.

vagary noun:
Pronunciation: Pronounced about three different ways. Take your pick.
Etymology: Probably fr. Latin

1) Archaic: Journey, excursion, tour (Sea Dragon’s adventures?)
2) Archaic: An aimless digression
3) Obsequious: (a) A departure from the regular, lawful or proper course of conduct. (b)Caper, frolic
4) A departure from the normal, expected or logical order of course. (a) A capricious, eccentric or unpredictable action. (b) A change that is hard to predict or explain.

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

RULES: You must use the WFTD in a sentence for an A. For a + after your “A,” you must bring in a link of the word usage or something funny, a poem or some prose that will elucidate the word for us.

If you need to know how to link, come to the Subbie’s desk in the front of the class.

Is that what I'm doing wrong? You have to boil the brine? I just use vinegar, water, dill and a few more spices, then throw in cucumbers. That's why they are so hard to eat.

Thank you, Vastie. Just having a little fun here. You will notice I don't give sentences of the WFTD. I'd probably make it naughty.

I couldn't do this five days a week every week. But eight days, no biggie. I've already got tomorrow's word finished, and, hopefully, I'll put it in chat. LOL!

You are officially the key master for Friday afternoon. Here's your key. Don't let the Tiger grab it from you. Miss Rika has the second key.

I don't plan on being around much longer........I've got to go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight.

I won't find out until some time in August (officially) which teacher Jax will have in September. But since the hubby of the current K teacher is a buddy of ours......I'm sure we'll know "unofficially" long before that!

There are currently 4 1st grade teachers, the K teacher moving up will make 5. I know 2 of the current 4 and would have no problem with either of them, and now there is a third I would be happy with.

I just hope I can make it through the summer..............

Enjoy her while you can. They get big very quickly, and then they're gone.

My nephew's first grade teacher had this great idea for her youngsters. She had a pickle chair. It was green. If a child acted up, he/she had to sit in the pickle chair.

My nephew being the kissa$$ he is, never sat in that pickle chair.

LOL!!!!!!! Mine knows ziltch about being a kissa$$....smartmouth she is ace at!!!

On our way home from the store we were talking about the discipline used in the classroom. They get "numbers" in the same way we got demerits.....and she had her fair share of them this year, yet all the teachers told us how much they enjoyed her in their class. Even during the parent teacher conference time each marking period (which one of us ALWAYS attended) we were told the same thing.

Looking back on the whole year and remembering some of those teacher conferences, I have come to the conclusion she really wasn't such a bad kid......the teachers knew how much we were paying attention and so were letting us know about even the littlest infraction.

We definitely made the right decision in moving here.

OK - I'm off my soap box.

You get to bed and have some good sleep! Isn't tomorrow your last day for "freedom"?

This Diamondbacks vs. Yankees game is driving me crazy. Four to one in the first flipping inning. Ugghhhhhh.

Hubby just headed for bed and I'm not far behind him............I've got to get up in the morning and put together all the end of year presents for the teachers......I'm not up for doing it tonight. And then I have to drive her to school - because she can't carry it all.

I found these really cool ice cream bowls, which would also make GREAT margarita glasses, that have the liquid in them and you put them in the freezer and I'm going to fill them with cookies.

Those bowls will be great. We use the same thing for water here. It's a double glass. We freeze them upside down. The water is like drinking ice. Cools you off in this heat.

Get some rest. It's your last day. Pretty soon Jax will be coming into your bedroom and saying, "Mommy!"

If it makes you feel any better, Cyber has these lights and radios coming on at 4:30 a.m. The lights are so bright your eyes burn from them. That's when the cat jumps in the bed, the dogs are begging for bones, and Cyber needs his coffee.

I usually go back to bed at 6:30 when Cyber goes to work. LOL!
