It wasn't a SUV, but, when we were teenagers, a friend's family car got caught in the surf on the south end of Hilton Head, right there on Calibogue Sound, and sank deeper and deeper into the sand. After a few weeks, the last we saw of it was the surface of the top. It was like slow quicksand.
