We donated an old car directly to our church. The church in turn gave it to a member who was then able to get a decent job to support his family. I knew he needed a car - I did not know the church would give him the one we donated - but it was okay. I could never have received the deduction had we given directly to our fellow church member, and the church was caring for one of its members but handing it over to him so he could better provide for his family (also church members/attenders)

That was very nice! Your donation did what it was supposed to do. I have seen some some things involving donation items that I would love for a reporter to take to the media. Any takers?

As someone who works for a church I beg you not to donate worthless pieces of junk to your church.

Unless the church has an unlimited budget that will allow it to repair the vehicle, license it, insure it until a new owner can be found.

Actually, that goes for anything you donate to a church. Please do not donate junk. Take it to the dump. That's probably where it will end up anyway. But the church will have to pay the fee.
