Very possible true. But you forget one little tool that the marketers use in the grocery stores that that affects product placement and just might also be applicable in book stores:

Slotting fees.

Good point. The large publishing houses often snub conservative writers even if they have an established record of success. Ann Coulter documented this very well in Slander.

The small publishing companies may not be willing or able to buy their way onto those front tables.
