Hopkins Gears Up for 'Indian' Race

Sun May 16,11:25 PM ET

By Chris Gardner

CANNES (Hollywood Reporter) - Anthony Hopkins (news) has committed to star in "The World's Fastest Indian" for director Roger Donaldson ("The Recruit").

"Indian," which Donaldson also wrote, centers on the life of Burt Monro, a New Zealander who invested several decades building a 1920 Indian motorcycle. He then traveled to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, where he set the land-speed world record in the 1970s.

Production on the film, being developed by indie firm Cameo FJ Entertainment, is set for August in New Zealand and New Mexico. Hopkins' recent credits include "The Human Stain" and "Red Dragon."

"The World's Fastest Indian"

Oh... the motorcycle.

That makes sense now.

I thought the aging Hopkins was going to star in a movie about the Indian Olympic athlete Jim Thorpe.

I had an Indian, the motorcycle kind, once. It wasn't very fast but would attract some fast girls, none of whom were Indians.

Those speedy Kiwi's will try anything.

What makes a country with such a small population produce so many really great race drivers?

,,, maybe plenty of roads with few people on them, plenty of farmland to get miles in for kids who can't legally use the roads - and the will to go for it, I guess.

I'll look forward to seeing Hopkins in this role. He's been faultless in all others.

I'm not one for formality or honorifics...but let me correct the usually poor level
of reporting:

CANNES (Hollywood Reporter) - Sir Anthony Hopkins (news) has committed to
star in "The World's Fastest Indian" for director Roger Donaldson ("The Recruit").

I just didn't want to see this oversight leading to some sort of dust-up in the Anglosphere.

Makes sense to me ~ I learned to drive tractor at age nine and got turned loose on the truck at age 12 on the farm.

I think we could a drivers license at age 14 for farm kids in those days (a long time ago.) :)
