I saw something wierd. I live in the Denver area. On May 5, 2004, I was looking south, at night, and saw a very fast moving object. It was too fast for an airplane. It streaked for a very long way, then disappeared. It was not a satellite (too much light polution to see one of those). It moved just a little too slow to be a meteor (beside the length is moved was too long. And it seemed to have a trailer, not a contrail but like mouse trailed on your computer. What do you think?

Meteors can move relatively slowly. If they have to catch up with Earth's rotation, and are fairly sizable, they can last a long time before burning up in the upper atmosphere. By "sizable" I mean bigger than a pebble and smaller than a boulder. These objects, called bolides, often create a path of ionized glowing air in their wakes. The glow can last for several seconds.
Sound like what you saw?
