I know what you mean about your grandmother. My good Italian grandmother made THE best spaghetti and gnocci, but when she started losing her sense of smell and taste, she pretty much gave up cooking it. She was very much a bake-aholic, and I have lots of childhood memories of going straight for the cabinet where she always had a stash of homemade sugar cookies.

I miss her too. I am not the baker she used to be, but only out of self-preservation. If I made half the things I wanted to, I'd be 400 lbs!!!

My grandmother used to make cinnamon rolls and while she was making them, she'd sit me up on the kitchen table (a blue formica top and nickel-plated table) and feed be patties of butter!

I am always looking for one of those blue formica top tables...
