Did anyone see Charles Krauthammer on the Fox News panel? Bless his heart, he had the best response I've heard yet to these repulsive prisoner-abuse photos.

Krauthammer pointed to the rank hypocracy of those Arabs condemning it...the same Arabs who have SAID NOTHING about terror attacks on our troops and citizens, the violent murders of the civilian contractors and desecration of their bodies, the mass graves found in Iraq, the horrific torture of Iraqis under Saddam, the use of innocent civilians as shields, etc. etc. etc.
Point, set, match! What a perfect point!

Bush should find a way to work this into his response. Something like,

"These acts are repulsive and those found guilty will be punished to the full extent of the law. We'll allow the trials to be broadcast so that all can see that we do not tolerate such abuses.

We are gratified at the Arab reaction to these acts and their recognition that it's important to publicly condemn such atrocities. No more silence in the face of such barbarism as was witnessed in Fallujah when 4 American workers' bodies were desecrated. We must all condemn the use of innocent women and children as shields in battle. We welcome Arab determination to root out those who are brutalizing Muslims..."

Wouldn't that sound good? Hoist those Arab leaders on that petard they've built for themselves.

Of course, that's exactly what Dubya, et al., should do. The same nutballs who celebrate the mutiliation of the four American contractors and suicide bombings of busloads of Israeli children are boo-hooing over some inexcusable, but non-fatal, prisoner humiliation.

Well, I'm all packed and under the impression that I haven't forgotten anything. We'll leave for the airport around noon. Mr. M still hasn't packed, of course (grrr), but at least I have all the important stuff in my bags, e.g., passports, camera, money, toothpaste. As Mr. M has been dealing with much craziness at his work, I'm hoping this is a good break for him. Thankfully, we both remembered to cast our absentee ballots today for the 5/11 primary (a friend is running for governor), but I don't suppose Le Monde will have the W.Va. election results in the 5/12 paper.
