Do you find it thought provoking that Kerry has so many photos and film of himself in 'Nam? A cynical person would think he thought those might come in handy when running for congress or the senate or maybe even president.
ironic that Kerry had just decided (yeah right) to "take the gloves off" and go after Bush's war record and within a couple of days, pow, there's this ad.
I don't think Kerry had planned to attack GWB's service, it really does make him look petty, but he had no choice since his equivocating on the medal tossing didn't make the controversy go away. He would have preferred to let orgs like MoveOn take the heat while he took 'the high' road. Charlie Gibson's segment nixed that.
LOL!! Can't you just see Kerry picking up Teh-RAY-zaaaaaaaaah in his Jetta for a date?
What am I saying? He probably rented a limo and charged it to taxpayers.
At our Ohio/WV gettogether Thursday, OhioWFan shared about her son, who just returned after some 14 months in Iraq. He said the Iraqi people were appreciative, grateful, loving and welcoming toward the U.S. and coalition forces ... all the things the Koppels and Jennings of this world don't want us to know.
I really don't see how the American public is supposed to interpret the drumbeat of gloom and doom about Iraq as anything other than anti-war propaganda. Just like what we were fed during the Vietnam War. The only thing that keeps our enemies from winning this time (and only by a sliver) with their propaganda is those brave men and women serving are volunteers. That has certainly put a crimp in their mission. Yet, it doesn't stop them from continuously droning on about keeping our troops 'safe'. How many in the military do you know signed up to be 'safe' while they do the most dangerous work in the world?
I really enjoyed reading about OhioWFan's son and his tour in Iraq and that kind of insight is very helpful for me because my nephew will be going to Iraq in November. He's in the Mojave Desert right now training to learn how to conduct check points with cars and sweep buildings. He's been accepted into driving school and hopes to be trained to drive a Bradley tank. Hal (his nickname) is only 19 and we're all worried about his upcoming tour in Iraq but very proud of him.
Hal signed up in the midst of the liberation of Iraq and he didn't sign up to get a free ride for college, he signed up because he loves his country and his family and wants to protect both.
God bless him. OhioWFan's son told his family that, if called back, he'd return to Iraq in a heartbeat, because he knows we're doing the right thing over there. Thank goodness there are at least a few young people like them.
Forgot to ask you if you saw the video of Effin' walking through the mine when he bonked his head on an overhead pipe? heh heh heh!

Democrats outside the campaign described the concerns as overstated, and said that any drift that might be taking place now would have little meaning next fall. They said Mr. Kerry had used the spring to raise money and that a war room and offices in Ohio and other battleground states would open shortly. And they noted that independent organizations had picked up a lot of the slack so far with big expenditures on television advertising and get-out-the-vote operations.Quick, tell me again about how they're NOT coordinating their expenditures!
Buffet and Steve Jobs are advising Kerry on economic issues along with, Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich, AFL-CIO labor organization President John Sweeney, New Jersey Senator Jon Corzine, a former co-chairman of Goldman, Sachs & Co., and former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, head of Citigroup Inc.'s executive committee.

Cash burning a hole in yer pocket Buffy? There must be one million and one charities out there, not to mention helping out our troops, but apparently Buffy isn't smart enough to instruct his help to find worthy recipients of his extra cash. And of course we wouldn't want the president's tax cut to look like it's a good thing!

Officially, it's because money's tight, but some Bush administration officials aren't hiding the fact that there is a little payback for anti-American coverage in the State Department's decision not to fund foreign press centers at the Democratic and Republican presidential nominating conventions. "They can come and pay like everyone else!"barked an angry administration official. "It's ridiculous; this is foreign press welfare." Said a British scribe: "I can't believe this is for a little ribbing in the press." What's happening is this: For the first time since Ronald Reagan ran for re-election in 1984, the State Department isn't pampering the foreign press by outfitting high-tech briefing rooms at the political conventions. "This year, money was tight," explained State's Adam Ereli. "You can't do everything you want to." The savings: a whopping $500,000. Instead, they'll have to cover the Boston and New York events like the rest of the press. Payback? Gosh no, says Ereli. "That's crazy," said the diplomat."We're not shutting them out." Link

Neither candidate seems to remember the historic occasion, but a new biography, "John F. Kerry," by three Boston Globe reporters, breaks the story of a debate at Yale over school busing. It was in the fall of 1965, when Mr. Kerry was a senior and Mr. Bush was a sophomore. David Thorne, a classmate of Mr. Kerry's who would later become his brother-in-law, is quoted describing the argument in the locker room near the Yale playing fields: "John had been participating in busing stuff, but George was very conservatively placed and thought it was a crazy idea."
Given the subsequent unpopularity of school busing experiments, this sounds like a potentially useful moment for Mr. Bush, who could point to it as evidence of his superior common sense even during his fraternity days. But there is a complication. In an interview on Friday, Mr. Thorne said he thought it was actually about a different kind of busing.
"I meant the Freedom Rides to Mississippi," Mr. Thorne said, referring to the trips by college students to protest racial segregation, which he recalled being a much bigger issue than school busing in 1965. "To the best of my memory, John was supportive of the rides and Bush was not. He had a conservative attitude that Northerners shouldn't be messing with the South."
In that context, it looks like a useful moment for Mr. Kerry. But one of the book's authors, Michael Kranish, stood by the original interpretation after reviewing a transcript of the interview. "David Thorne used the word `busing' twice in the interview and never mentioned Freedom Rides," Mr. Kranish said. "I don't think an argument about Freedom Rides makes as much sense." Although school busing in late 1965 was not yet the major issue it would become, Mr. Kranish said, it had recently been in the news because of court cases over school segregation and busing in Massachusetts. Can you imagine, now Kerry is asking Vets if they have had counselling? (see photo caption) He who guards his privacy so much and won't release all of his medical records.

I find it interesting that there is some sort of preconceived notion that Vietnam veterans automatically are whacked-out misfits in need of counseling and special services, and that no one is offended that people like Kerry encourage that prejudice.
