The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

There's careful buying, and then there is this.

And this is f#*%!&g idiots. I have Harley home. Against everyone's recommendations who they had test him they passed because their educated idiot vet said the horse "might" have foundered in the past! Can you believe that. The trainer at the barn told me when I picked him up, that she tried to tell them there was nothing wrong with the horses feet. That he was an excellent trained horse, good minded and very willing jumper. Gosh,, I'm so pissed, but I don't know who to be pissed at. Mostly myself for dealing with the rich snotty ass english set. I should have known better then that.

Good grief. These people ain't normal, even for the rich snotty ass english set. They ought to just buy the girl a fine sports car and forget horses.

Oh well, I'm over my mad now. I'm not sorry to have him back. I was actually disappointed that we weren't going to get to see how he would do on barrels.

I just called the vet they took him too. He won't tell me what he told them. I told him they were saying he said the horse might have foundered. He said I wasn't really hearing what he said first hand. I said I heard that from the husband, and he said the husband wasn't there, so I was getting my info second hand:) I said OH, Ok so you're saying the wife lied to the husband about what you said, sounds good to me:) and hung up.

People....why do I want to deal with them???

Those people have problems that have nothing to do with horses.

Well I'm getting ready to go give them their afternoon feeding, then I'm going to go ride him to see if they have turned him completly into a sissy english horse:) I really do believe this horse will be happier here where we give him so much varity and things to do. Not just trotting around an arena looking pretty.

So what do you have to do to get the vet to tell you what he said? Pay him another $500? Seems like the $500 they spent should cover all opinions about the horse he has for at least today ;~D.

Seriously.... the sale is off now, if there was a health concern about the horse, you'd think he'd repeat it to you if only so that you are aware of it as the owner of the animal!

Twilight Zone.

He said I would have to call the people and have them call him and OK the release of the info:) All this for an animal, good heavens, rich people live in another dimension. Twilight zone indeed:)

You know Becky, if you have a lawyer you might want to run this by him. This is your horse the vet examined. He could not have done so without your permission. If he saw a problem then you need to know before re-selling him. If this was just an excuse to get out of the sale and the vet didn't say this then you need to know that too. Just reading this is nuts. Since they had already made an offer I figured they would buy but try to talk you down.

Well everyone here will probably never let a vet near their horse without being present after this.

Life has been rough for her and my son a very good catch. I can understand she doesn't want to take any chances but life would have been so much easier if she had just got hitched last night in her church:')

I know you are fed up with the whole jumping scene and I don't blame you but Harley did get a months free jumping lessons and the trainer felt like he was gifted in this area so I was wondering what you thought about free leasing him to Heather on your property except during lessons and let her show him for you, representing your business. They might even up the lil darling and her perfect horse, whoever that might be. Just a thought, if he could do trails and jumps.

LOL...I just came in from running to town and told Mack, you know the perfect revenge would be to get Harley and Heather working together real good and take him to their next show:) seems you have the same in mind.

But 1. No, I'm done with them, AND done with the english set, jumping or otherwise. 2. I know that horse will make a great barrel horse and I want the chance to prove that I have good judgement about horses.

I'm taking him next week with me when I go to my vet with Belle, and ask him if the horse is foundered. I know what the answer will be. My farrier told me 6 weeks ago the horse had great feet. I know that what the vet said maybe founder is not. All horses have ripples in their hoofs. It's from feed change, moisture change's in the grass, etc. These people and their vet are educated idiots with no common sense.
