The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I took some pictures of Eddie yesterday (which I won't be posting). Going to take some practice. It's a little camera so I hooked it over the horn but it kept bothering me. I was also concerned taking the picture with the what ifs while my attention elsewhere. The she horse stood still and did fine though.

Good Morning.
Off to the barn. I have to run errands before I go. I'm quite sleepy. *yawn*

You won't be posting because the pictures didn't come out or because Eddie is shy? ;~D

My camera has a case that will fit on a belt, or I put it on my saddle. OK to concentrate on what you are doin' for now....

I sure like this horse! I am looking for a horse with experience for ecurbh. She's shorter than Bay, but substantial.

LOL..about the getting ready part. We bought our first horse and didn't even have fence up:) We had a chain link fenced front yard only and that is where he stayed the first week. Our first fence was one strand of hot wire ran thru insulators nailed to trees:). It really did some zigzagging. Stayed like that for about 4 years. We finally got real fence around the perimeter. And it wasn't till I got Belle, 10 years after we had horses before we got my barn. Sometimes you have to put the cart before the horse before your inspired to "get ready":)

Heh... Yeah - I bought Bay over the phone and hadn't seen him in 5 years. I was renting a duplex at the time. It was his owner that rented me this place, all the fence wire was down and it was all overgrown. I boarded Bay till I got the paddock up, and brought him here when that was done. Bay helped me finish the fence, he carried all the tools. ;~D

Just got back from my ride. Rode a smallish (about 15 hand) black TB (pretty sure) mare named Tammi. I couldn't believe it when my trainer told me that she was 27. She looks much younger. And she moves out really well. Big trot. Apparently when they got her when she was 18, no one ever taught her how to canter before then. Spooky horse, (I stayed on, I've still got it!) but very willing.

"Hip No. 43, F, by Danzig out of champion older mare Hidden Lake "

Depending on this gal's looks, she is going to go for a few million. Danzig is a classic proven sire and Hidden Lake was a very, very good runner.

Anything by Storm Cat is almost priceless. Again, good conformation is a must. Storm Cat is a wonderful looking animal. These should be real nice.

Fusaichi Pegasus has sired a filly I believe that went for 5 million. She was gorgeous (I THINK it was a filly)

Hip No 301 by Thunder Gulch out of Lakeway is going to be a doozie too. Unfortunately Thunder Gulch is a shuttle stallion and he has hundreds of babies already. The price on his babies I dont believe will be as high as others.

AP Indy is a ridgling, its a chance to even breed to him, though he will probably make a classical sire. Just wont get all his mares pregnant.
