Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I've got two and a half horses two dogs a devil cat a rabbit three hermit crabs and a fish tank. We have a zoo.
Oh, a husband and a step son too. lol

I am sure you have read enough to know that I have one and a half horses... also have one dog at the moment, and I also have a cat... Have two neons left in my fish tank, used to have bala sharks till they jumped out in a bizarre failed escape attempt!

I have a fiancee and no children.

I know that your half of a horse is a pony. My halfof a horse is the pretty buckskin that mom has shown you all. I own the riding part and dad owns the breeding part.:)

What kind of riding do you do? - Are you the one that I think is into barrel racing? - or trail? - both?

I am only a pleasure trail rider now... used to show and jump, probably never will again, unless one day I end up with my dream dressage horse ;~D

I do both, although I like to barrel race better than trail ride. I have a four year old mare that I am training right now. We are just starting to add just a little bit of speed to our pattern.

What kind of riding do you do?

Heh.... just trail now, though I ride English all the time. Bought my first ever western saddle for my fiancee ecurbh to learn in. My horse is 22 and has the easy life most of the time.

I use to ride english when I was younger, and still do some. My husbands horse has the training to do the show stuff, so I play on her a little for something different. Barrels is my calling though. It's such a rush.

Do you have any pictures runnin' barrels? What kind of level do you compete at? breed type events or rodeo events for cash or just for fun?

I'm actually going to pick up the horses tonight. They've been at my father in law's getting shoed. We are going to my mom's house tommorow to ride for awhile.

We're going to let my step son try riding my four year old out on the trail so we can all three ride together.

I've got pic, but I have to get my husband to show me how to post them.

I do it mainly for fun. Usually at rodeos or jack pots. Lately since I've been just working with the four year old we've just been going to play days were the competition is pretty low.
