Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
You can probably ask about feed. If it's a stable where everyone is fed together, they may frown on feeding one guy differently, but they ~can~ do it.
They won't expect him to already jump like a pro. He'll do everything else just like he should! Trust him!
The guy told me that was why he hadn't called back till now, because I had told him the horse didn't jump. I guess the lady at the stable told him he should still give the horse a look, because a safe horse is their top priority, the jumping could come.

If the trainer is sensible, she'll start him easy, not go too high too fast, not push him more than he should go. I wouldn't trust him to the teenager alone, they always go too high too fast ;~D. He's in good athletic condition, he'll be fine.
Mal, you around?
UUUUH, I feel so bad. My husband on the phone talking to his brother about a horse. I heard him tell him, "I have to get me a horse. I feel like the stable boy" :'(
Heh.... I am glad he's excited to get one. You two are going to have a great time together. Can he ride one of the school horses so you can ride together now or is he riding Okie?
It's not a teenager, I think she's about 9-10.
Becky
How fun. That's a good gig for Harley if he can get it!
He told me he knew I was listening and just messing with me. He's funny. We had agreed that for awhile it would be best if only I ride him. We tend to do everything the same way (right or wrong) though so he rode him once about 3 weeks ago when one of the rare times when no one around.. My saddle and stirrups don't fit. The owner offered him a loaner saddle but he's not used it. I asked why he doesn't use it or ride him and he just says "just because" go figure. He really likes Okie though and Okie responds well to him. I think he just wants his own and then we can switch back and forth if we want. I guess it's one of those guy things.
It probably is... ;~D
I just went outside to feed, and the clown (Rusty) has put his head thru the big heavy front gate and lifted it off the hinges. He was running around in the front yard snorting at it laying on the ground. I put him in the new run I fixed last week and in the dark the loon hit the hot wire twice. He had everyone out there running around. I turned the barn lights on, hopefully that will help him see the wire. I swear it's always something with horses. They're like 3 year old kids their whole lives.
Becky
You think???
Now I'm worried that he'll be stupid.....
Becky
Oh dear.
Bay is out there fiddling with the gate. He thinks it's feeding time here.
I think the show pony of a 9-10 year old kid is a pretty good gig, yeah! Not a bad life, and you never know, she may go far with him!
That gate has been there for 15 years. I guess I'll have to wire it down:)
Becky
Turn the top hinge around 180 degrees so it faces the opposite direction. They can't lift them out that way.
I'm wondering how much the Olympics being on have to do with the urge to buy a horse is:) Dad said she wants to do cross country. I noticed the pictures you posted were that, right? BTW, those are some neat pictures.
Becky
Oh yeah. Now that you say that, my gate panels hook that way. Duh:)
He's really a good coach. He doesn't try to coddle me and encourages me on. I don't know if I would have pushed on after the fall if he hadn't been behind me, telling me I could do it.
