At the time of the Bush/McCain face-off in South Carolina, there was a "swirl" in the media about rumors being spread about BOTH candidates.
The Howard Fineman-types never defined it, but we were led to believe some wacky right-wing religious zealots were spreading rumors about McCain being mentally unfit because of his POW years. There was also something about his wife. This was all just hinted at and I never have known what to make of it.
It was just enough to feed the donkey trash machine and try to separate McCain from the GOP (ala Jeffords). The media never got over their darling losing....they never grasped that it was a REPUBLICAN primary...IN SOUTH CAROLINA! And they call Dubya "dumb"?!

Every time Kerry opens his mouth my contempt for him grows.
I just finished a lovely political discussion with my son. He came home and told me his history class has started learning about the Nixon through GHWBush years (teacher is a big lib. You're shocked I'm sure). As you might imagine the conversation took off from there.
But here's the really good news, he told me his impression of those his age is that the majority are conservative. This year will be the first election he will be able to vote and yes, he's voting for Bush. :-)
