Howard Stern set to produce new 'Porkys'

U.S. radio host Howard Stern has signed on as executive producer of a new version of Porky's, Empire magazine reported on its Web site Tuesday.

The original Porky's, out in 1982, was a surprise box office hit that spawned sequels and imitators, including the American Pie films, all of which centered on 1950's nostalgia, naked women and embarrassing bodily functions.

The new film will be written by Craig Moss, who wrote Saving Ryan's Privates, and Steve Schoenburg, writer of Legion of Iron and Alien Warrior.

Stern's prior feature film experience includes his autobiographical Private Parts.

The original Porkys was better.... Clear Channel had the right to boot him off the air and now he whines like an old lady.

True about Porky's, but it's a bit ass-backwards for conservatives to be supporting the expansion of government intrusion into regulatory areas.

Howard is always complaining about people stealing his creative riffs and bits.

If he is so creative, why does he have to re-make Porky's.

Why can't he come up with an idea of his own? Anyway, looks like he's got some real talent writing for him. Some very impressive credentials on these guys.

I agree...I would have much rather Howard get the pink slip for low ratings than become a FCC martyr.

Have been listening to Stern since 1981. Used to enjoy it, but a lot less so over the last several years. However, his anti-Bush tirades & associated misinformation has become intolerable. I spend a lot of time arguing with the Stern/Democrat Kool-Aid drinkers on the Stern Usenet newsgroup. If possible, all of this nonsense wants me to see Bush reelected even more (if that's possible). Were I living in Chicago, I'd vote early & often (even if I were dead ;-)

I thought Private Parts was good. I hope he doesn't butcher the remake.

Good luck, Howard.  You're not going to find a Thespian with the range of a Dan Monahan or the emotive genius of Mark Herrier.  The way Wyatt Knight held the audience captive in the famous "Gas Station Scene" will never be duplicated.

Now, Porky's II:  The Next Day, that could probably stand a remake.  I guess maybe I was expecting too much out of it, but it fell short of my expectations.  It seemed that there was just so much fertile ground still to be sown with this rich and diverse cast of characters.

You can't remake that movie. And Howard is no longer funny.

Ya know, speaking of old movies, last night Iturned on the tube about 1 am...I'd been reading late, and wanted to catch Sportscenter before turning in...did a little channel surfing....and caught the opening scenes of Working Girl...hadn't seen the movie since it came out..but the opening scene, with the Staten Island Ferry heading into lower Manhattan, against the backdrop of the Twin Towers, with the great Carly Simon song in the background...the images of the WTC really hit home for a sec....

Oh yeah... there are a lot of movies that used the WTC as a backdrop :(
