A narrow fellow in the grass by Emily Dickinson
Note to bentfeather....
I find this poem to be mysterious and haunting. Who is the narrow fellow in the grass?
Several of nature's people
Who are these people??
I feel for them a transport Of cordiality;
Is she speaking of a dragonfly??
Her own shadow??
Whatever she saw scared her to the bone.

In the stillness of the garden, there was movement, and in the quiet of the theater, there was music. The ominous tones foretold what the new sounds portended. At first a glimpse, and then a transit of patterned, scaly skin. The music rose in volume as the large snake stopped, raising its head to test the air with a flicking, restless tongue. It moved ominously toward the human figure. Rearing dangerously when it got very close, it at last began circling the unencumbered foot of the statue, and moving upward around the leg. Again and again it circled the youthful limb, as if it had petrified its victim.

Probably one of the whites on the moor.
(Ghosts in the boggy swamps.)
Or maybe even brownies.
