COLUMBUS, Ohio - A study shows some smokers who try to cut back are doing themselves more harm than good.

Researchers at Ohio State University followed 25 women who smoked less without quitting completely.

The study found they were more likely to take longer drags, and hold the smoke in longer.

That put more nicotine in their blood, and more carbon monoxide in their lungs.

The study also found people who use menthol cigarettes tend to inhale more smoke because it's easier to take in than smoke from regular cigarettes.

The study appears in the latest issue of 'Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Behaviour.'
