Remembering what made a guy appealing vs a turn off for me personally...

Make sure you have good oral hygiene and fresh breath.

Same for the rest of you. : )

Clothes - fit in with others. And clean. Same for your auto and home.

Be independent of your parents and have high goals for achievement.

You don't have to be a stud, but carry yourself with real confidence - head-up - eye contact, smile, but not too much. Have a sense of humor with a "wink" to it. Not goofy.

Confidence is *huge*. You need to give the impression that you are the one selecting - not hoping to be selected. You are happy with yourself and don't need a girl to make you happy - one who happened along and passed your high standards would be icing on the cake, but til then, hey... yer cool.

Clinginess or neediness will make any healthy girl run.

So will anything that comes off as whining or being a victim... Don't spent the date talking about Liberals or your frustration with society.

Someone mentioned ordering for her... such good advice. A lot of women today might be warped with the feminist mindset, but you don't need them. Plenty out there want a Real Man. Be one.

Ordering for her, opening doors, being protective, and all the other traditional forms are a great way to set yourself apart from the others - and establish your traditional tastes in lifestyle. (I'm assuming that fits you since you are here - if not, ignore.)

I'm also assuming you are already active in the local political scene, Young Republicans, etc.

Find a position of authority - be a leader. Be a good one.

Finally, I agree with the others.. you are so young. Dating now should be just for fun. You'll be more marketable the older you get and develop some gravitas. At this point, a lot of the girls your age are looking at men in their late twenties and early thirties. You could easily find a girl 4-5 years your younger, but they will change so much in the next decade, they should only be considered temporary dating material. And when you are in your thirties, you will be able to be sooo much more selective.

Finally, never, ever talk about how hard it is to find dates. Just talk about how hard it is to find intelligent women ... give the girl a standard she feels she must meet to deserve you. (I'm assuming you know better to think that means be a jerk.)

CCC, a lot of this might apply to you, or it might not. If you're 39, there are a lot of other things that could be going on... like where you live, maybe.

My 2 cents, FWIW... Those are the things I can think of that mattered to me.
